Muslims believe very strongly in the inferiority of women, and they take every opportunity to prove it.
This page contains news and commentary about so-called "honor killings" and other ways that Islam treats
women like livestock. These incidents occur in the U.S., Canada and England, yet the great feminist
leaders — the cowards! — are all totally silent. One would think that the feminists
would have the loudest voices in support of a war that brought democracy to Iraq and allowed women
to vote — and girls to attend school — for the first time. Even in a time
of relative peace, the continuing practice of "honor killing" is not something to keep quiet about.
Obama's Islamic
America. In this year's [Ramadan] greeting, Mr. Obama said the rituals of Ramadan "remind us
of the principles that we hold in common and Islam's role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the
dignity of all human beings. ... That Islam has had a major role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance
and the dignity of all human beings may come as a surprise to Muslim women. Young Afghan girls who
are having acid thrown in their faces on the way to school might want to offer their perspectives.
Group A and Group B. Suppose
we have two groups. Group A believes that women are human beings, just like men are, and that
they should be equal partners in their society. Group B believes that women were created by the
devil to tempt men, that they have no human rights, and that they must be used to have as many children as
possible.
Terrorizing Muslim Women.
The silence is deafening around the world in regards to the inhumanity and brutality of Sharia towards women.
Most of the activism against stoning, flogging and abuse of women under Sharia is heard from former Muslim
women, like myself, and a few others in the West who dare to expose the truth. Muslim women have no
choice but to abide by Sharia, since rejecting it is grounds for the charge of apostasy, punishable by
death. Having been exposed to Sharia for centuries, Muslim women have learned convoluted coping
mechanisms to avoid Sharia's wrath.
Obama Apologizes for Stupid Americans' Opposition
to the Ground Zero Mosque. For you liberals who somehow got forwarded this column and still don't
know what Sharia law is, allow me to enlighten you. It is the literal interpretation of Islam that leads
to the widespread abuse and enslavement of women. It's also called the reality of "that woman in Iran who's
waiting to see if she's going to get stoned to death for adultery" rules. Who knows if she really committed
adultery? In Islamic societies all a man has to do to give his wife the proverbial dirt nap, is simply
claim she did. Under Sharia law, men are the judge, jury and executioners of women, and Obama apparently
thinks Americans are too stupid to know this.
Advocates
of Anti-Shariah Measures Alarmed by Judge's Ruling. A New Jersey family court judge's decision not
to grant a restraining order to a woman who was sexually abused by her Moroccan husband and forced repeatedly
to have sex with him is sounding the alarm for advocates of laws designed to ban Shariah in America.
Sex and State Power.
Statist regimes, of course, cannot tolerate self-ownership, which is the natural enemy of government control
over the individual. The easiest example one can find of a statist regime using sexuality to deny
individuality and dominate its citizens is, of course, Islam. A wise friend of mine once opined that
Islam's entire quarrel with the West rests on its fear that Western values will undermine Islam's control
over its women and, with that, its control over the men who benefit from a system that subjugates one half of
the population to the control of the other half. There's a great deal of truth in that observation.
Understanding Muslims'
Mindset. The Muslim's mind is imprinted with authoritarianism which starts with the supreme
authority, Allah, through his one and only prophet, Muhammad, his Caliphs or Imams, and the high-ranking
religious divines all the way down to the village clergy. This authoritarian mentality encompasses all
aspects of life for the Muslim: the king and his dominion as the viceroy of God, the Amir and his
despotic ways, the Khan and his unchallenged rule over the tribe, the village headsman and his extensive
power, and finally the father and his iron grip at home over the women and children. All these
authority figures are male.
"Soft" Censorship: Honor Killings That You Won't Read About.
The mainstream media rarely covers them. More often, local media does, but even local media does so walking
on eggshells, careful to quote from at least one apologist and one know-nothing. Usually, the (hardcopy)
mainstream media covers such events weeks later, only briefly, or as a way to "spin" any possible prejudice
against the perpetrators involved. Sometimes they are mentioned, but only in passing. Rarely do
follow-ups appear. Usually, a wire service piece is used, and no original reporting is done. Sometimes,
the newspaper's blog might refer to a piece which first appeared in another newspaper which, in turn,
has mentioned the subject only in passing. I am talking about how rarely the American mainstream
media covers honor killings committed in North America.
This Is Rare Courage.
[Scroll down] When it comes to the brutal slayings of young Muslim women by their fathers, brothers, or
husbands, The [New York] Times gets squeamish. As Ms. Hirsi Ali relates, this misplaced sensitivity arises
from the cult of multiculturalism, which would rather tolerate egregious crimes against women than offend
Third World sensibilities.
Mutilated
by the Taliban. With her clear skin and dark, flowing hair, 18-year-old Aisha would ordinarily
have stood out from a crowd because of her beauty. But now, tragically, the young Afghan woman is eye-catching
for a horrifically different reason. Aisha is a victim of Taliban brutality, her nose and ears barbarically
hacked off by her own husband in a warped punishment for attempting to flee her cruel in-laws.
Honor
Killings on the Rise. Afshan Azad, the lovely and graceful actress who appears in four of
the Harry Potter movies, has, in real life, been threatened with death and allegedly attacked by her father
and brother. Her sin? She is a British Muslim of Bangladeshi origin who stands accused of
dating a Hindu man. Yes, this alone is a capital crime in Islam.
Harry Potter
and Sharia law. On July 2, CNN reported, "The father and brother of a Harry Potter
actress will appear in court later this month in Manchester, England, on charges of threatening to
kill the young star." The family is Muslim, and the suspected motives are clear —
Afshan Azad, who played Harry's classmate Padma Patil in the popular movies — was dating
a Hindu. Popular publications including Entertainment Weekly, People and US Weekly are all
covering this disturbing but not unprecedented case, bringing a horrifying fact of life in Europe and
across the world to the attention of people who don't immerse themselves in news and politics.
Deoband
fatwa: It's illegal for women to work, support family. Darul Uloom Deoband, the
self-appointed guardian for Indian Muslims, in a Talibanesque fatwa that reeked of tribal patriarchy, has
decreed that it is "haram" and illegal according to the Sharia for a family to accept a woman's earnings.
Are Honor
Killings Domestic Terrorism? If a true and "peaceful" Islam -- a pro-woman Islam -- has
been hijacked by maniacs, then true and peaceful Muslims must stand up to them. If one's interpretation
of faith can encourage a man to drive a car bomb into Times Square, it can also give good people the faith and
courage to stand up and fight the extremists in their midst. Faith can empower people to combat radical
evil in a way that nothing else can.
Worldwide Trends in Honor Killings.
To combat the epidemic of honor killings requires understanding what makes these murders unique. They differ
from plain and psychopathic homicides, serial killings, crimes of passion, revenge killings, and domestic
violence. Their motivation is different and based on codes of morality and behavior that typify some
cultures, often reinforced by fundamentalist religious dictates. In 2000, the United Nations estimated
that there are 5,000 honor killings every year. That number might be reasonable for Pakistan alone, but
worldwide the numbers are much greater.
Are Honor Killings Simply
Domestic Violence? When a husband murders a wife or daughter in the United States and Canada,
too often law enforcement chalks the matter up to domestic violence. Murder is murder; religion is
irrelevant. Honor killings are, however, distinct from wife battering and child abuse. ... Families
that kill for honor will threaten girls and women if they refuse to cover their hair, their faces, or their
bodies or act as their family's domestic servant; wear makeup or Western clothing; choose friends from another
religion; date; seek to obtain an advanced education; refuse an arranged marriage; seek a divorce from a
violent husband; marry against their parents' wishes; or behave in ways that are considered too independent,
which might mean anything from driving a car to spending time or living away from home or family.
Is there any honour in killing for
'honour'? The growing incidents of honour killing in different states, and now in the national
capital, have proven that caste and its brutal ramifications are still prevalent in India. Many of us
are plainly baffled by the incidents, often arguing that the phenomenon is at odds with the new and resurgent
India that we hope and dream about. But is it actually for the sake of family honour?
Multiculturalism
Trumps Feminism. One reason why readers think we rightwing madmen are just making this stuff up is
because of the shameful silence (and worse) of western feminists, who implicitly accept a two-tier sisterhood, in
which some women get to lead the lives they choose while others, in the interests of "cultural sensitivity", get
a literally rawer deal that begins with FGM and, if they're really unlucky, ends with "honor killing".
Feminism's
failure to defend Muslim women. [Scroll down] Lubna Hussain was not jailed for wearing pants. She was
convicted for being an outspoken journalist, who criticized undemocratic laws in Sudan. She was an easy target because
she was a woman. If the authoritarian Sudanese government was incapable of debating her intellectually, they resorted
to attacking her person — her sex, and justifying it with high-minded notions of religion and morality.
The
Burqa: Ultimate Feminist Choice? Most Muslim girls and women are not given a choice about
wearing the chador, burqa, abaya, niqab, jilbab, or hijab (headscarf), and those who resist are beaten,
threatened with death, arrested, caned or lashed, jailed, or honor murdered by their own families. Is
[Naomi] Wolfe thoroughly unfamiliar with the news coming out of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia,
and Sudan on these very subjects? Has she forgotten the tragic, fiery deaths of those schoolgirls
in Saudi Arabia who, in trying to flee their burning schoolhouse, were improperly veiled and who were beaten
back by the all-powerful Saudi Morality Police?

police issue 'badly veiled' warnings to 62,000 women. Iranian police have issued warnings to
62,000 women who were "badly veiled" in the Shiite holy province of Qom as part of a crackdown on dress and
behaviour.
Drugged and dressed to kill.
Before sending her off with a suicide bomb strapped to her waist, Rania al-Anbaki's husband made a wish.
"You'll be a martyr and we'll meet in heaven. I hope you'll choose me," she recalls him saying.
Interviewed in an Iraqi police station two years later, Anbaki said she did indeed meet her husband again —
but in prison rather than paradise.
Taliban execute pregnant
woman. The Taliban publicly flogged and then executed a pregnant Afghan widow by emptying three shots
into her head for alleged adultery, police said on Monday [8/9/2010]. Bibi Sanubar, 35, was kept in
captivity for three days before she was shot dead in a public trial on Sunday by a local Taliban commander
in the Qadis district of the rural western province Badghis.
Honor,
and Shame. When you look at all the formulaic sludge that wins the Pulitzer Prize for Most
Unread Multipart Series, it is striking that not one of the major newspapers has done an investigative series
on the proliferation of "honor killings", not in Yemen or Waziristan but in the heart of the western world.

'I
killed my daughter... with my hands'. For years, Muhammad Parvez had been in absolute control
of his family: he set the rules, he made the decisions and he told his eight children, including the
adult ones, exactly how to live their lives. But Aqsa Parvez, 16, the youngest in the family, dared
to challenge her father's rule.
Couple die in 'honour
killing'. New Delhi police said on Tuesday they had arrested the father and uncle of a woman
found stabbed, gagged and electrocuted along with her boyfriend in an apparent gruesome case of "honour
killing". Asha Saini, 19, was found dead on Tuesday in northwest Delhi in a low-income neighbourhood,
along with her 19-year-old boyfriend Yogesh Kumar, whom she wanted to marry despite objections from her
family, according to reports.
Suntanned
women to be arrested under Islamic dress code. Iran has warned suntanned women and girls who
looked like "walking mannequins" will be arrested as part of a new drive to enforce the Islamic dress code.

her family does not know where she is. She knows that the next morning, she will be executed. But

under Iranian law, she cannot be executed until she is deflowered. And she knows that the Iranian Basji
militia are determined that she be killed, which means that this night, she will be forcibly married. Then
she will be raped, in order to make her eligible for the death penalty.

to be victims of an honor killing, a senior U.S. military official said on Friday.

ever before, according to new figures released today [12/7/2009]. The Metropolitan Police recorded 256 incidents,
of which 132 were criminal offences, in the year 2008-9.

killing': father beat daughter in face with club. A 50-year-old Turkish man was jailed
for life in Germany on Tuesday over the brutal "honour killing" of his 20-year-old daughter, a murder carried
out together with the victim's twin brother. Gulsum Semin's brother was sentenced to nine-and-a-half
years behind bars, while a 32-year-old Russian accomplice was given seven-and-a-half years by the court in
Kleve, western Germany, a spokeswoman said.

to protect his family's "honour" pleaded with him to reveal the whereabouts of her body after he was
jailed for life yesterday [12/17/2009]. Nuray Guler urged Mehmet Goren to "end the nightmares" and allow the
remains of Tulay Goren, who was 15 when she disappeared a decade ago, to be given a decent burial.
Petrol
attack on actress in Muslim-themed play. An actress was doused with petrol in Paris in an
attack thought to be related to her role in a feminist play she wrote about Algerian women. The
45-year-old, who goes by the name of Rayhana, said two men approached her while she was walking to the
theatre on Tuesday [1/12/2010], grabbed her from behind, slapped her face and poured petrol on her.
"I could smell the petrol. A flame brushed my hat and then I ran," she said.

buried alive over boys. A girl was buried alive by relatives in southeast Turkey in a gruesome
honour killing just because she reportedly befriended boys, the Anatolia news agency reported on Thursday [2/4/2010].
Naomi
Wolf, Will You Denounce the Honor Murder of Medine Memi? In Turkey just recently, a father and
grandfather repeatedly beat Medine Memi, a sixteen-year-old girl, for the crime of talking (allegedly) to
boys. The police weren't interested. The beatings were eventually deemed insufficient punishment
for Medine for the temerity of having her own human agency, so the father and grandfather killed her by
burying her while she was "alive and fully conscious."
Rape
victim receives 101 lashes for becoming pregnant. A 16-year-old girl who was raped in Bangladesh
has been given 101 lashes for conceiving during the assault. The girl's father was also fined and warned
the family would be branded outcasts from their village if he did not pay.
Saudi woman sentenced to 300 lashes, jail.
A Saudi woman who filed harassment claims in Saudi Arabia without being accompanied by a male
relative has been sentenced to 300 lashes and 18 months in jail, Human Rights Watch said.
Europe
Cracks Down on Honor Killings. A decade ago in London, a father terrorized then plotted to
honor-murder his 15-year-old daughter. After attacking her twice, the girl simply... disappeared.
Nevertheless, due to a British police decision to revisit and reclassify old cases, the father has
just now been convicted of her honor murder.
'Honour'
killing dad jailed. A Jordanian court sentenced a man to 15 years' hard labour on Tuesday
after convicting him of killing his daughter for allegedly having sex with her husband before their marriage
in 2007. "The man, in his sixties, knew that his daughter, 25, was involved in an affair with a man, and
decided to allow her to marry him," a judicial official told AFP. "But after the wedding he shot her
several times. He made sure she was dead, before handing himself in to police and confessing to the
crime." The official gave no further details.
Hamas
bans women from motorcycles. The Hamas government has banned women from riding motorcycles in the
Gaza Strip, saying the move was in keeping with "Arab traditions."
Hamas to expel Gaza schoolgirls not wearing
Muslim dress. Female students in the Gaza Strip will be required to wear head coverings and
full-length robes beginning this school year, the Hamas rules of the Gaza Strip announced on Monday [8/24/2009].
According to the new regulations, any female student that does not attend class in the proper attire will be
sent home.
Saudi
girl, 13, sentenced to 90 lashes after she took a mobile phone to school. A 13-year-old girl
has been sentenced to 90 lashes and two months' prison in Saudi Arabia after she took a mobile phone to
school. A court ordered the girl to be flogged in front of her classmates following an assault on the
school principal, according to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan.
Honour killing girl 'wanted
love'. A teenager allegedly murdered by her father in a so-called "honour killing" hated
her family and wanted to run away, a court has heard. Tulay Goren, 15, a Kurdish Turk from Woodford
Green, north London, vanished in 1999 and her body has never been found, the Old Bailey has been told.
Monitors: Taliban cut off fingers
of Afghan voters. Making good on a threat of election day violence, the Taliban sliced off the index fingers
of at least two people in Kandahar province, according to a vote monitoring group. After they cast their ballots, the
fingers of Afghan voters are stained with ink to prevent them from voting multiple times. The fingers of the
two women in Kandahar, a stronghold of the Taliban, were cut off because they voted, said Nader Naderi of the
Free and Fair Election Foundation.

Long Island Honor Killing? On Friday, August 7, 2009, Mohamed Shojaeifard, a 49-year-old
Iranian scientist, estranged from his 40-year-old Bangladeshi physician wife, Haleh Mohseni for more than a
year, shot her in the abdomen. Shojaeifard did not stop there. He also shot and killed Mohseni's
65-year-old mother, Batool Biraman -- and his own 17 year-old daughter, Mandana, who had just graduated from
Roslyn High School and was planning to attend SUNY at New Paltz. ... Not a single media account has mentioned
this crime as potentially related in any way to culture, ethnicity, religion, immigration, or assimilation.
The
Straight Poop On Radical Islam. [Scroll down] For instance, recently I read about a
stomach-turning incident that took place in Phoenix, Arizona. It seems that four boys between the ages
of nine and 14 lured an eight-year-old girl into a shed and took turns raping her. While that was pretty
d--- loathsome, what was even more disgusting is what took place afterward. In the little girl's presence,
her father, a Muslim refugee from Liberia, told the police, "Take her. I don't want her." It seems
that in what passes for their culture, the child had brought shame on the family.
Honoring the Victims of
Honor Killing. Remember Aqsa Parvez? She was brutally murdered by her father and brother
in December 2007 for refusing to wear the Islamic headscarf. But that was only the beginning: the
abuse of this girl continued. She was buried in an unmarked grave. Her family refused to
acknowledge her life, as she had "dishonored" them. In defiance of her devout father and brother,
she had refused to live under the suffocating dictates of Islamic law.
Whipped
for wearing a 'deceptive' bra. A hardline Islamist group in Somalia has begun publicly whipping women
for wearing bras that they claim violate Islam as they are 'deceptive'. The insurgent group Al Shabaab has sent
gunmen into the streets of Mogadishu to round up any women who appear to have a firm bust, residents claimed yesterday
[10/15/2009].
Somali
fundamentalists whip bra-wearing women for being a 'deception to men'. Fundamentalists from the
Al-Shabaab group, which has seized half of Mogadishu, have attacked women who wear bras or who fail to don
headscarves, reports said. ... Broadcaster CNN yesterday [10/31/2009] revealed that hooded gunmen from Al-Shabaab had
last week seized 50 women who were found unveiled at a Mogadishu market. One of them told the
station: "Just today, Al-Shabaab dispatched men with whips to the streets around Bakara market
and they are flogging any woman who is found not wearing socks (to cover their feet]."
Saudi
female journalist gets lashes for sex show. A Saudi court on Saturday sentenced a female journalist
to 60 lashes after she had been charged with involvement in a TV show in which a Saudi man publicly talked
about sex.
Father
accused of murdering his 15-year-old daughter in 'honour killing'. A schoolgirl murdered by her father
in an 'honour killing' was told to kiss her brother goodbye the day she went missing, a court has heard. Mehmet
Goren, 45, told his daughter Tulay, 15, to let her brother embrace her one last time in an emotional farewell, it is
alleged.

school blown up. Islamist militants blew up a girls school in Pakistan's lawless Khyber tribal
district on Sunday [11/01/2009], destroying the building and wounding four people in neighbouring homes,
officials said.

Pakistan girls school: official. Taliban militants blew up a girls' school in Pakistan's
Khyber district Monday [12/21/2009], officials said, as two soldiers and seven insurgents were killed in
clashes in the northwest tribal belt. The pre-dawn school attack took place in Saddokhel town in northwest
Khyber tribal district, where militants detonated explosives planted around the building, destroying all five
school rooms but causing no injuries.
Honour
killing theory as mother-of-two found dumped in the street with her hand chopped off. A mother
was found dying in a street with serious head wounds and her right hand cut off as she went to pick up her
children after work. Geeta Aulakh, who has two young sons, died four hours later in hospital from her
horrific injuries. Police later arrested her estranged husband, 31-year-old Harpreet Aulakh, along
with five other men.
The case of Noor Faleh Almaleki
Iraqi man runs down daughter for
becoming too 'westernized'. Peoria police are searching for a man they say ran down his
20-year-old daughter in a parking lot for becoming "too 'westernized' and ... not living according to
their traditional Iraq values." Noor Faleh Almaleki of Surprise was taken to a local hospital
with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Another Honor
Killing? Police in Peoria, Arizona, just outside Glendale, are searching for a suspect in the
attempted murder of his daughter. They allege Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, mowed down Noor Faleh Almaleki
in a Jeep Grand Cherokee because the 20-year-old is too "westernized." He also struck another innocent
victim, police say.

Father Arrested for Running Over 'Westernized' Daughter. A 10-day manhunt ended when police
arrested an Iraqi immigrant accused of running over his 20-year-old daughter to punish her for becoming "too
Westernized" and rebuffing the conservative ways he valued.
Honor
Killings All Over America — Why Are the Islamists Suddenly Silent? Last week, the
Iraqi father who drove a two ton jeep over his daughter in Arizona for being "too westernized" high-tailed
it out of town, drove down to Mexico where he abandoned his vehicle and caught a flight to London. UK
Port of Entry authorities denied him entry, contacted US authorities and placed him back on a plane to the
US. Almaleki was arrested when his plane landed in Atlanta, then returned to Arizona where he now
sits in jail.
Daughter
hit with car driven by father for being 'too Westernised' dies. A 20-year-old woman from Iraq
whose father allegedly hit her with his car because she had become too Westernised has died from her injuries,
authorities said. Noor Faleh Almaleki had been in hospital since October 20, when police say her
father ran her and her boyfriend's mother down with his Jeep as the women were walking across a parking lot in
the west Phoenix suburb of Peoria.

prosecutor Stephanie Low told a Maricopa County court that, "By his own admission, this was an intentional
act and the reason was that his daughter had brought shame upon him and his family." So where is CAIR,

first-degree murder, aggravated assault and two counts of leaving the scene of a serious accident. But
prosecutors announced this week that he will not face the death penalty — it wouldn't be multicultural.

CAIR's Strategy of
Deception: Sharia law covers every minute of every day of a person's life in Islam. Of course there are
many peaceful aspects of Sharia, but as the 17 year old Rifqa Bary and many others have tried to inform people, Sharia
law also has many violent aspects which can no longer be ignored. Sharia law is an all or nothing. A Muslim can't
decide (and be in conformance with Islamic law) that they want to abide by some aspects and ignore other aspects such as

who fled from her home in fear for her life after her devout Muslim father found out she had become a
Christian. According to Rifqa, who is now in foster care in Ohio, she has been diagnosed with
advanced uterine cancer. While this is a tragedy, how Rifqa is being victimized by her lawyers
and her parents is nothing less than an atrocity.
Freedom
of Religion: A Precious American Right, an Islamic Capital Crime. Given the anti-Christian views of many
Muslims and of all the Western book-and-column writing atheists and secularists, I wonder if Rifqa Bary, the teenage convert
from Islam to Christianity, is not respected as a hero who is fighting for her freedom of religion but seen, rather, as

Sri Lanka). According to breaking local news, "Goodrich also said it's not in the girl's best interest to
return her to her native Sri Lanka. Bary is (also) an illegal immigrant. The ruling allows her
attorneys to file for a special immigration status to allow her to stay in the U.S. while she continues
medical treatment following recent surgery for uterine cancer."

Germany heard today [8/21/2009]. The 27-year-old Kurdish man, identified only as Onder B, was found guilty today
of stabbing his wife in the eyes, beating her with a billiard cue and then running over her in his car.

seeks public flogging. A Muslim model who will be caned for drinking beer said on Thursday [8/20/2009]
she asked Malaysian authorities to punish her in public instead of in a prison, but they refused to go against
official procedures. Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, 32, is scheduled next week to be the first woman in this
Muslim-majority country to be flogged under Islamic law after she was arrested in a raid and sentenced by a
Shariah court for drinking alcohol at a hotel lounge last year.

punishment. Islamic officials have unexpectedly freed a Muslim model scheduled to be caned
this week for drinking beer.
Sudan women 'lashed for trousers'.
Several Sudanese women have been flogged as a punishment for dressing "indecently", according to a local
journalist who was arrested with them. Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein, who says she is facing 40 lashes,
said she and 12 other women wearing trousers were arrested in a restaurant in the capital, Khartoum.
When they say "trousers", they are apparently taking about blue jeans.

me if you dare' says Lubna Hussein, Sudan's defiant trouser woman. As the morality police crowded around her
table in a Khartoum restaurant, leering at her to see what she was wearing, Lubna Hussein had no idea she was about to
become the best-known woman in Sudan. She had arrived at the Kawkab Elsharq Hall on a Friday night to book a cousin's
wedding party, and while she waited she watched an Egyptian singer and sipped a coke.
Sudanese woman convicted
of wearing trousers freed. A woman journalist convicted of public indecency for wearing trousers
outdoors was freed Tuesday [9/8/2009], despite her own desire to serve a month in prison as protest against Sudan's draconian
morality laws. ... She told The Associated Press that she was freed Tuesday after the fine was paid without
her knowledge by the Journalist Union, which is headed by a member of the ruling party.
No flogging for trouser-wearing woman in
Sudan. A woman journalist was convicted Monday [9/7/2009] of public indecency for wearing trousers, but was
spared a sentence of flogging. A defiant Lubna Hussein said she would not pay a $200 fine and would take a month
in prison instead to protest Sudan's draconian morality laws.

pay trouser fine: lawyer. Sudanese woman journalist Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein was sent to jail after refusing
to pay a 200-dollar fine imposed early today for wearing trousers deemed "indecent", one of her lawyers said. "She
has been taken to the women's prison in Omdurman," the twin city of Khartoum, Kamal Omar told AFP. Earlier, a
Khartoum court spared Hussein a whipping for wearing "indecent" trousers but instead fined her 500 Sudanese pounds
(200 dollars).
Saudi
religious police blamed for 'honor killings'. Saudi Arabia's religious police are being blamed
for the death of two sisters who were murdered in what is known as an 'honor killing' by their brother after
the sisters were arrested for allegedly mixing with unrelated men. The Society for Defending Women's
Rights in Saudi Arabia said the religious police arrested the two sisters, aged 19 and 21, thus putting
their lives in danger.
Let's All Accept Islam.
Mr. Obama, your speech in Cairo encouraged me to reconsider my thoughts on how I view Islam as a religion in today's society. I
have really thought it over and decided to fully accept Islam ... with just a few caveats. First, they have to stop
treating women as second class citizens. Don't tell me those head covers are worn by choice. They are forced on
them just like honor killings.
The Speech. What
struck me most about Barack Obama's speech today [6/4/2009] in Cairo is what was missing: Iraq. He didn't
skip Iraq entirely, but his discussion of it was perfunctory and incomplete. ... Iraq today is a model for many of
those things Obama says he hopes to see in the region — women right's, religious freedom, the defeat of
"violent extremism," economic development and opportunity, and, yes, democracy. ... In Saudi Arabia, women cannot
drive. In Iran, they're stoned on suspicion of adultery. In Pakistan, politicians publicly defend "honor
killings" of young girls who have the audacity to choose their own husbands. Those women are struggling
for equality.
Let Women Wear
the Hijab: The Emptiness of Obama's Cairo Speech. With women being stoned, raped, abused, battered,
mutilated, and slaughtered on a daily basis across the globe, violence that is so often perpetrated in the name
of religion, the most our president can speak about is protecting their right to wear the hijab?
When the Extreme Becomes the Norm. But to the
women who are compelled to dress according to the requirements of others, Obama had nothing to say
at all, as if the only "right" at stake were the right to obey an instruction that is, in fact — if
it matters — not found in the Quran. In Turkey, too, head scarves for women are outlawed in
some contexts. Is this, too, Islamophobia? Does the president think that the veil and the burqa
are also freely chosen fashion statements?
Why Has Obama Got It In for Muslim Women?
Obama would protest, of course, that he does not condone forced marriages or honor killings; indeed he says, in his Cairo
speech, that women should be free to choose "traditional roles." But how free is that choice, in a family where Islam
can be exercised "unimpeded"?
Obama
Throws Muslim Women Under the Bus. It is a Catholic woman's right to become a nun and shave or cover her hair;
it is an Orthodox or Hasidic Jewish woman's right to shave or cover her hair; and it is a Muslim woman's right to cover her
hair and her face — as long as those women who refuse to do so are not browbeaten, beaten, ostracized, stalked,
stoned to death or honor-murdered. I have written about just such cases in the West ... cases in which young
American- and Canadian-Muslim girls were tormented, then killed because they refused to wear hijab. In Europe, where
there are many more Muslims, there is a veritable epidemic of such exceedingly dishonorable and incredibly gruesome "honor"
murders.

Muslim Woman to Be Flogged in Malaysia
Over Beer. An Islamic court in Malaysia has sentenced a Muslim woman to be flogged with a rattan cane
for having a beer in a nightclub, a court official said Tuesday [7/21/2009]. It is rare for a woman in Malaysia
to be sentenced to caning — a punishment usually reserved for men in various crimes ranging from rape to bribery.
Islam's Hatred of a Woman's Laugh. Over
the weekend, Hamas policemen in Gaza attempted to arrest a Palestinian female journalist, Asma al-Ghul. Her crime?
She came to a Gaza beach dressed "immodestly" (not wearing hijab) and was caught laughing in front of others. The
police ended up confiscating her passport and she has been living in fear inside her home ever since.

will let Afghan husbands starve wives who withhold sex. An Afghan law which legalised rape has been sent
back to parliament with a clause letting husbands starve their wives if they refuse to have sex. President Hamid
Karzai ordered a review of the legislation after The Independent revealed that it negated the need for consent within
marriage.
Man
kills 'immoral' sister. A 20-year-old Jordanian stabbed his married sister and smashed her head
with a rock after accusing her of "immoral behaviour", a security official said on Friday [7/10/2009], a day
after a similar crime took place. "The suspect stabbed his younger sister 20 times with a kitchen
knife before smashing her head with a rock inside the family's home on Thursday night, in Nozha" in east Amman,
the official told AFP.

Frenzy of Honor Killings. On June 24, 2009, in Germany, a Turkish father, Mehmet O, a kebab shop
owner, repeatedly knifed his fifteen-year-old daughter, Bursa, while she was sleeping. Despite the fact
that Bursa, her mother, and her sister all wore hijab, Mehmet O. still felt Bursa was too "westernized,"
and that she did not want her "strict Muslim father to control her life." Bursa's friends described her
as a "fun-loving girl, (who) loved hip hop music... But that is no reason to kill someone."
Court halves
man's jail term for 'honour' killing. A court on Tuesday [7/7/2009] halved the jail term of a 29-year-old
Jordanian man who shot his raped sister 12 times "in the name of honour", a judicial official said. The
criminal court initially sentenced the man to 15 years with hard labour for killing his sister in 2008 in Mowaqqar,
southeast of the capital Amman, but immediately reduced it to seven-and-a-half years.
'If We Now Kill Schoolgirls, You Shouldn't
Be Surprised'. Responding to threats from the Taliban, at least 10 girls' schools have shut down near Kunduz in
northern Afghanistan. Visiting the schools is a dangerous proposition — a trip leading directly into the
heart of Islamist territory.

school blown up. Militants bombed a girls' primary school on the outskirts of Pakistan's
Peshawar city on Friday [6/26/2009], the latest in a series of such attacks blighting the northwest of the
country, police said. The school was badly damaged during the attack in Mattni village, local police
official Abdul Ghafoor Afridi told AFP. Forty kilogrammes of explosives were used to raze the
building, although some of the structures were left standing, he added.
Ottawa man guilty of 'honour killings'.
A man who killed his sister and her fiance because they brought dishonour on his family was sentenced to life in prison
yesterday [5/30/2009] with no chance of parole for 25 years. Hasibullah Sadiqi, 23, said nothing after a jury
of seven men and five women found him guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the Sept. 19, 2006 gun slayings
of his sister, Khatera Sadiqi, 20, and her fiance, Feroz Mangal, 23.

50 innocent schoolgirls were poison-gassed at school and had to be hospitalized. ... Such attacks on Afghan
girls schools have escalated within the past year. However, this barbaric, Taliban mentality is alive
and well among some Afghan immigrants in the West.

killings involve a cleansing of dishonour aimed at restoring a family's respect after the so-called
"misbehaviour" of female relatives, an expert has told the Ottawa murder trial of Hasibullah Sadiqi.
The "act of purifying through blood" involves control of women by male family members, said Shahrzad Mojab, a
University of Toronto professor who has researched the topic extensively.

Father, mother, brother charged in 'honour killings'.
The father, mother and brother of the three teenage girls found dead in a car submerged in a canal near Kingston on
June 30 have been charged with first-degree murder. Montreal residents Mohammed Shafi, an electronics
businessman, wife Tooba Mohammad Yhaya and 18-year-old son Hamid Mohammed Shafi were also charged with the killing
of the fourth person found in the Rideau Canal, 50-year-old Rona Amir Mohammed.
'Crime of honour' arrests.
A Montreal businessman charged with killing four members of his family conspired with his second wife and his oldest son
to commit mass murder in a bid to restore his honour, relatives of one of the victims have told Sun Media. The
family members allege Mohammed Shafi had beaten his 19-year-old daughter Zainab and threatened recently to kill her
and the woman he had passed off as his cousin.

girls' father, Tooba Shafia Yahya, the girls' mother, and the girls' oldest brother with four counts each of
first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Were deaths of 4 women a matter of 'honour'?
That's a theory being pursued by police as family members are charged with first-degree murder in bizarre drownings of a
woman and three teenaged girls in the Rideau Canal. After the tragedy, the mother and father wept, while the eldest
son lashed out in anger, each calling it an accident, a rebellious teenager's joyride gone terribly wrong. Yesterday,
as they filed, handcuffed, one by one, into the prisoners' box, prosecutors offered a much darker explanation, calling it
murder.
Rise in Canadian 'honour killings' should not be
ignored: expert. As many as 5,000 women and girls lose their lives — most at the hands of
family members — in "honour killings" around the world each year, according to the United Nations. Up to
a dozen have died for the same reason in Canada in the last decade, and it's happening more often, says Amin Muhammad,
a psychiatrist who studies honour killings at Memorial University in Newfoundland.

Police Call It A "Muslim Honor Killing.". At 2 pm EST today [7/23/2009], on a CFRA radio press conference,
it was announced that the deaths of four Afghan-Canadian girls and women was a "Muslim honor killing." If so,
this is the fifth known honor killing in Canada since 1999 and it brings the death toll to nine victims. I am
no statistician but I have friends who are and they tell me that this is a very high number given that the Muslim
population in Canada is no more than 750,000.
Kingston
killings show there's no such thing as foreign values. The police were careful not to say anything
about Islam and honour killings, and several local commentators were quick to point out that domestic
violence — even murder — is not a uniquely Islamic phenomenon. We have plenty
of that not motivated by religion in general, or Islam in particular. Yet in a murder case in which
the accused and the victims are all recent immigrants from Afghanistan, and in which all the accused are
named Mohammed — the foreignness of it all is related to religion and nationality. One simply
cannot avoid it.
Family's plans to murder daughters, first wife
hatched months before: police. The suspicious circumstances that led to a car, carrying the bodies of three
sisters and their father's first wife, being submerged in the Rideau Canal began to unravel on Thursday [7/23/2009], amid
allegations of an unfathomable scenario where the girls' parents and brother conspired in a premeditated murder.
The darkest brand of 'honour'. When an
Ethiopian man in Alexandria, Va., killed his wife, the report in last week's Alexandria Gazette Packet tiptoed nervously
around his motive. It said that cultural issues were involved and that he had ordered her not to interact with
co-workers. In case the point still wasn't clear, the reporter attempted to explain: "In Ethiopia, women
have more defined roles." That's a cowardly way of saying that women automatically obey their husbands in Ethiopia
but sometimes don't in America. The deliberate ambiguity would be comic if it were not attached to a tragedy.
Code Pink Hearts Iran's Mullahs. On
Wednesday, November 26, a 39-year-old woman, Fatemeh Haqiqat-Pajouh, was hanged, together with nine male prisoners, in
Tehran's infamous Evin prison. In 2001, Fatemeh had killed her husband while he was attempting to rape Fatemeh's
then-14-year-old daughter, Zahra, born from a previous marriage. ... A few days before Fatemeh's execution, Medea Benjamin
and Jodie Evans, two wealthy American women and co-founders of Code Pink, arrived in Tehran on a "citizen diplomacy"
trip. ... Benjamin and Evans wrote daily accounts of their trip to Tehran on their blog — and wasted not a word
on poor Fatemeh or on the tragedy of women's rights in Iran under the mullahs and their Sharia laws.
Taleban threaten to blow up
girls' schools if they refuse to close. The Taleban have ordered the closure of all girls'
schools in the war-ravaged Swat district and warned parents and teachers of dire consequences if the ban
is flouted. In an announcement made in mosques and broadcast on radio, the militant group set a
deadline of January 15 for its order to be obeyed or it would blow up school buildings and attack
schoolgirls. It also told women not to set foot outside their homes without being fully covered.
'There's
no honour in killing,' top judge tells Muslim family in test case. A senior judge yesterday condemned
the notion of honour killings as an affront to English law. Lord Justice Wall declared that 'they are acts of
simply sordid criminal behaviour' and 'had nothing to do with any concept of honour known to English law'. In
an Appeal Court test case he ruled that the welfare of children should not be put at risk because of the 'honour'
idea held in some Muslim families.
Women
told: 'You have dishonoured your family, please kill yourself'. When Elif's father told
her she had to kill herself in order to spare him from a prison sentence for her murder, she considered it
long and hard. "I loved my father so much, I was ready to commit suicide for him even though I hadn't
done anything wrong," the 18-year-old said. "But I just couldn't go through with it. I love
life too much."
Saudi judge sentences pregnant gang-rape victim to 100 lashes for
committing adultery. A Saudi judge has ordered a woman should be jailed for a year and
receive 100 lashes after she was gang-raped, it was claimed last night. The 23-year-old woman,
who became pregnant after her ordeal, was reportedly assaulted after accepting a lift from a man. He
took her to a house to the east of the city of Jeddah where she was attacked by him and four of his friends
throughout the night.
Saudi
princess says she is 'ready to drive'. Princess Amira al-Taweel, the wife of the conservative
Islamic kingdom's most renowned businessman, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, said she already drives when she
travels abroad. "Certainly I'm ready to drive a car," she said in an interview with al-Watan, a Saudi
Arabian daily newspaper. "I have an international driver's licence, and I drive a car in all the
countries I travel to."
Saudi court sentences
75-year-old woman to lashes. A 75-year-old widow in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to 40 lashes
and four months in jail for mingling with two young men who are not close relatives, drawing new criticism for
the kingdom's ultraconservative religious police and judiciary.
Man kills 'immoral' sister.
A Jordanian man was charged on Saturday [4/11/2009] with premeditated murder after he said he stabbed his pregnant sister
to death because of her alleged "immoral behaviour", a judicial official said. The 25-year-old suspect "stabbed his
28-year-old married sister in the face, stomach and back, and to make sure she was dead, he cut her throat, before turning
himself in and confessing to the crime this morning", in the southern governorate of Tafileh, the official told AFP.
Father charged with hiring hit men to kill mini-skirt-wearing
daughter. An Azeri immigrant in Russia's northern city of Saint Petersburg has been
charged with hiring hit men to kill his 21-year-old daughter for wearing a mini-skirt, police say.
Afghan Taliban Kill Young Woman, Man for
Eloping. A Taliban firing squad killed a young couple in southwestern Afghanistan for trying to
elope, shooting them with AK-47s in front of a crowd in a lawless, militant-controlled region, officials said
Tuesday [4/14/2009]. The woman, 19-year-old Gul Pecha, and the man, 21-year-old Abdul Aziz, were accused
by the militants of immoral acts, and a council of conservative clerics decided that the two should be killed,
officials said.
Speaking Truth to Muslim Power.
There is probably no issue that angers militants more than women's rights. Advancing this cause in traditional
Muslim societies caught in the merciless whirlwind of globalization isn't easy, but no effort is likely to bear more
fruit in the long term than having American officials become public champions of women's rights in Muslim lands.
The left romances the jihad. Ask those on the left what
values they champion, and they will say equality, tolerance, women's rights, gay rights, workers rights and
human rights. Militant Islamists oppose all that, not infrequently through the application of lethal
force. So how does one explain the burgeoning left-Islamist alliance?
The ironic case of Muzzammil Hassan
I had never heard of this man until he was charged with murder, but apparently he and his wife ran a
TV network or cable channel of some sort, designed to show how peaceful and rational Muslims are.
The irony in this story would have been hilarious if the end results had not been so gruesome.
Prominent Orchard Park man charged with beheading his
wife. Orchard Park police are investigating a particularly gruesome killing, the beheading of a woman, after
her husband — an influential member of the local Muslim community — reported her death to police
Thursday [2/12/2009]. Police identified the victim as Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37. Detectives have charged her
husband, Muzzammil Hassan, 44, with second-degree murder.
Headless body in gutless
press. Just asking, but are beheadings common in western New York? I used to spend a lot of time in that
neck of the woods and I don't remember decapitation as a routine form of murder. Yet the killing of Aasiya Hassan
seems to have elicited a very muted response. When poor Mrs Hassan's husband launched his TV network to counter
negative stereotypes of Muslims, he had no difficulty generating column inches ... The media's lack of curiosity is in
marked contrast to their willingness to propagandize for the launch of Mr Hassan's station. It also helps explain
why the US newspaper business is dying.

in Buffalo: The Honor Killing of Asiya Z. Hassan. On February 13, 2009, in
Orchard Park, a suburb of Buffalo, 44 year-old Muzzamil Hassan, a prominent Muslim businessman was arrested
for having beheaded his wife, 37 year-old Aasiya Z. Hassan. Yes, he beheaded her. Aasiya's
crime? She dared to obtain an order of protection which forced her violent husband out of their home.
We are now sadly familiar with some high profile Islamic beheadings of infidels in Muslim lands; Daniel
Pearl, Nicholas Berg, immediately come to mind.
The
'truth to power' gap. [Scroll down slowly] Have you heard about the founder of a television
network in upstate New York dedicated to showing Muslims as peace-loving and political moderates? You
might have when he started his enterprise in 2004, as the venture received lavish attention. But when
Muzzammil Hassan allegedly cut off his estranged wife's head this month, coverage not only was muted, but the
media bent over backward to dispel any notion that religion had anything to do with it. After all, isn't
wife-beheading an ecumenical practice?
Headless
Body in Legless Story. Spousal murder is not unusual. Beheading your wife is. If
Muzzammil Hassan decapitated his as an Islamic ritual, then his entire professional life — Mister
Moderate Muslim — was a lie. ... That's what makes this a story rather than one family's tragedy.
If you're not intrigued by the apparent fraud at the heart of this man's life and work — a fraud in
which the U.S. media cheerfully colluded — you lack the elementary curiosity necessary to be a journalist.
Bridges TV, a
Wife's Beheading, and Honor Murder. One hasn't heard much about Bridges TV for a while, ... presumably
because its once-shimmering prospects declined under the weight of the realities of North American demographics.
But it is about to reappear in the news with a vengeance, and for the most ironic possible reason. The station that
Muzzammil ("Mo") Hassan, 44, founded with the achingly benevolent idea, in the words of a November 2004 biography, to help
"non-Muslims overcome the negative images they may have of both Muslims and Islam" has now abundantly enhanced negative
images of Muslims and Islam.
Beheaded wife had "no authority" to divorce her
alleged murderer. The murder and beheading of Aasiya Zubair Hassan transcends the issue of domestic
violence that ends tragically. There is more to this story that must be told, if not for the sake of the
victim, for the sake of future victims and for the sake of our Western culture.
Slain Orchard Park woman was stabbed before
beheading. Aasiya Z. Hassan was stabbed several times before being beheaded Feb. 12, and authorities
still aren't sure whether she was alive when she was decapitated. Sources close to the case also have confirmed
that Hassan was attacked with hunting knives. "The certificate of death is going to say stab wounds and
decapitation," one law-enforcement source familiar with the case told The Buffalo News.
If Your Wife Gives You Any Smack Then ... Cut Her Head
Off? In his ongoing efforts to portray Muslims as chummy neighbors, Muzzammil
Hassan, founder of Bridges TV, cut his wife's head off last week when Muzzy found out she was going to
ditch him. What's that, you say? This is the first you've heard of the 2/12/2009 beheading in Buffalo in which
a Muslim TV exec chopped his wife's noggin off in one of their office suites? Oh, I'm sorry. I assumed that
you'd already heard about it — but then I just recalled that ABC, NBC, CBS, and NPR haven't said a word about
it since it happened. Oops.
Were Investors in "Bridges
TV" Misled? April 12, 2007: The Council on American-Islamic Relations' Philadelphia branch held its
first annual dinner and who, of all people, did the Islamist enemy chose to cross state lines to celebrate and award?
None other than Muzzammil Hassan.

someone mention CAIR?
The
Left and a Woman's Severed Head: Within hours of the news of Aasiya Z. Hassan's
February 12th beheading, allegedly by her husband, Muzzamil Hassan, in Buffalo, American-Muslim
organizations and individuals began a dirge bemoaning the existence of domestic violence. But
thanks be to Allah, they affirmed, such violence exists among all faiths and ethnicities. Such
family violence, they insisted, had nothing to do with Islam. Muslim leaders emphasized
that honor killings were "anti-Islamic" or "un-Islamic," a holdover from "pre-Islamic times." They
vowed to preach against it in the mosque. All well and good. That Mr. Hassan beheaded his
wife — well, that simply wasn't dwelled upon.
Beheading Moderate Islam: Was the
murder of Aasiya an honor killing, for something she did that offended Islam? The denial and obfuscation
began almost immediately after the killing. Khalid J. Qazi of the Muslim Public Affairs Council
(MPAC) chapter of Western New York, declared: "There is no place for domestic violence in our
religion — none. Islam would 100 percent condemn it." This is a strange claim,
given the fact that while spousal abuse exists in all cultures, only in Islam does it carry divine sanction.
Beheading of Wife Poses Another Test for U.S. Muslims.
The crime was so brutal, shocking and rife with the worst possible stereotypes about their faith that some U.S. Muslims
thought the initial reports were a hoax. The harsh reality of what happened in an affluent suburb of Buffalo, New
York — the beheading of 37-year-old Aasiya Hassan and arrest of her estranged husband in the
killing — is another crucible for American Muslims.
A history of abuse preceded Orchard Park beheading.
The lives of Muzzammil and Aasiya Hassan were quite different from their public image in the local Muslim and broadcast
communities. In the public eye, they were a dynamic couple, building their — actually her —
dream of a Muslim-lifestyle TV channel in the United States. But police reports compiled for much of their marriage
tell another story.
The
Deceits Of Bridges TV. On the political level, its raison d'étre was based on the canard
that Muslims in the United States suffer from bias and are victimized. That an idea took formal expression
in 2000, when the Senate passed a resolution inveighing against the "discrimination" and "backlash" suffered by
the American Muslim community, an insulting falsehood then and now. On the ideological level, Bridges TV
was a fraud, pretending to be moderate when it was just another member of the "Wahhabi lobby." Endorsed
by some of the worst Islamist functionaries in the country (Nihad Awad, Ibrahim Hooper, Iqbal Yunus, Louay
Safi), it was an extremist wolf disguised in moderate sheep's clothing. On the financial level, Bridges
TV marketed itself to investors on the basis of an imaginary population of 7 to 7.4 million U.S.
Muslims, or two to three times the actual total, making the station commercially unviable from day one.
What's Behind The Enormous Denial That Beheadings Are Related To Islam?
Recently, Bill O'Reilly had a segment about honor killings in which he interviewed Dr. Dawn Pearlmutter, an
expert in ritual murder. She confirmed much of what I have written before, namely, that beheading is
rampant in the Islamic world; that it is accepted as a practice by moderate as well as radical Muslims; that
jihadic beheadings are videotaped; that there is a thin line between the public beheadings and the more
domestic varieties. Dr. Pearlmutter said that beheadings are highly symbolic, are always about
"restoring honor" or "purity" to the beheader. Depending on which interpretation of the Qu'ran is
followed, a beheading may also prevent the beheaded Muslim from entering Paradise.
A Civilized Dialogue About Islam and Honor Killing. It
has been my privilege to know and to work with Dorchen Leithold who is a fearless, tireless, driven, and
heroic champion of womens' rights. ... We now have a genuine disagreement about whether or not Islam plays a
role in domestic violence and honor killings, including in the recent horrific beheading of Aasiya Z.
Hassan in Buffalo. Dorchen thinks not, I think there is a profound relationship that we deny at our own
peril and to the detriment of Muslim girls and women.
Islam
and the Death of Western Civilization. As for Mr. Hassan, some people have wondered why he's
only being charged with second-degree murder, while others are naturally puzzled by the fact his grisly crime
hasn't captured more media attention. While I can't claim to know the answers, I am willing to hazard a
guess. Even though nobody, aside from a defense attorney, would dare suggest that it wasn't a clear-cut
case of premeditated murder, I suspect Hassan has been charged with the lesser crime because, as is often the
case, a double standard is in play.
Hassan pleads 'not guilty' in decapitation

pleading not guilty to second-degree murder charges in the slaying and beheading of his wife in February
in Orchard Park.
A Raw Deal for Muslim Women.
The February 13 beheading of Aasiya Z. Hassan by her husband Muzzamil Hassan, as reported here at Pajamas Media
by Phyllis Chesler, has stunned the American Muslim community. This honor killing is particularly
shocking because Hassan co-founded the Bridges TV network, which was created specifically to combat negative
stereotypes of Muslims and to supposedly present Americans with an alternative ÒmoderateÓ form of Islam.
However, the official response to this tragedy from the Muslim community has not been helpful.
DA will challenge any 'insanity' claim in decapitation.
Prosecutors are prepared to challenge the legality of any type of insanity-related defense Muzzammil S. "Mo" Hassan
might raise in the decapitation of his estranged wife, they told a judge today [6/4/2009]. Erie County Judge
Thomas P. Franczyk scheduled a Jan. 19 start for jury selection in the television entrepreneur's murder trial. He's
accused in the Feb. 12 killing of Aasiya Zubair Hassan, 37, in the Orchard Park TV studio where they both worked.
Man accused of
beheading wife to use psychiatric defense. A man accused of beheading his wife at the television station
they founded to counter stereotypes of Muslims is likely to claim emotional distress was behind the killing in hopes of
avoiding a murder conviction.
Judge rejects planned defense, delays in
beheading case. The judge in Muzzammil S. "Mo" Hassan's murder case today barred his new
attorney from using an emotional-disturbance defense and said he would only grant the jailed businessman
further delays in his trial based solely "in the interests of justice."

station who is accused of beheading his wife is due in a Buffalo courtroom for proceedings in advance
of his murder trial.
Muslim Beheads Wife, Claims Victim Status.
In February 2009, Aasiya Z. Hassan, a 37-year-old Muslim woman, was found decapitated in Orchard Park,
N.Y., a village near Buffalo. Her husband, Muzzammil Hassan, 44, admits that he beheaded his wife.
Yet now, in a bizarre turn in the case, Muzzammil Hassan has claimed that he was the real victim in the case,
driven to murder his wife after enduring years of her emotional and physical abuse. The case stands
as a classic example of the universal tendency on the part of Islamic supemacists and jihadists to blame
everyone but themselves for what they have done.
Afghan
diplomat Mohammed Fagirad charged in all-day wife beating. An Afghan diplomat was charged Friday [2/13/2009] with beating
his wife "like a dog" for more than 15 hours in their Queens home, prosecutors said. Mohammed Fagirad, 30, a vice
consul at the Afghanistan Consulate, brutalized his wife inside their Flushing home from about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday until
nearly midnight, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. During the attack, Fagirad bit, slapped, choked and beat
the 22-year-old woman with a belt, pushed her down a flight of stairs and sat on her chest, prosecutors said.
Arab-Israeli women slaughtered in the name of the family.
The Abu Ghanem clan has lost another one of its women, the 10th in eight years to be killed for supposedly
breaching the family's "honour". The latest victim is Dalia Abu Ghanem, a 16-year-old mother of one, who
vanished several weeks ago after an argument with her family. It's the most recent in a horrific series
of "honour killings" that has infested the Abu Ghanem clan of Juarish, an Arab neighbourhood on the outskirts
of Ramla, a blue-collar city of 64,000 south of Tel Aviv.
President
Obama Believes He Can Charm the Barbarians. America's first (half) African-American president, whose first
order of business was to reach out to the Muslim world on Al-Arabiya, has said he will actively negotiate with the Iranians,
Afghans, Pakistanis, and Saudis. I wish him well. But I also fear for him and hope he reads what I have to say.
He must understand that he will be dealing with barbarians. Like all good liberals, he may not understand what that
means. But what word other than "barbaric" describes the systematic incitement to violence that takes place in mosques
and on television and which has led to mob rampages and episodes of "wilding" against Muslim girls and women who are
group-groped, gang raped, kidnapped into sexual slavery, set on fire, buried alive, blinded by acid for daring to go to
school, work as a newscaster, a hairdresser, or for a foreign company, refuse to wear a shroud, or choose to marry someone
of their own choice.
Hitmen charge $100
a victim as Basra honour killings rise. Authorities in the southern Iraqi city of Basra
have admitted they are powerless to prevent 'honour killings' in the city following a 70 percent
increase in religious murders during the past year. There has been no improvement in conviction
rates for these killings. So far this year, 81 women in the city have been murdered for
allegedly bringing shame on their families. Only five people have been convicted.
Girl strangled slowly for family's
honour. A Jordanian man slowly strangled his 16-year-old married sister, using wire and the girl's scarf,
after she visited a female friend because he had to "cleanse family honour". ... In Jordan, between 15 and
20 women are murdered annually in the name of "honour." Last year around 17 such killings were recorded.
Rape
as 'Resistance': On October 31, 2008, an Egyptian female lawyer by the name of Nagla Al-Imam
suggested on the Arab TV channel "Al-Arabiya" that Arab men should sexually harass Israeli women, stating:
"Leave the land so we won't rape you." She then argued that Israeli young girls and women are fair game
for all Arab men and that there is nothing wrong in using this kind of threat as a form of resistance.
Situating
Honorcide: The subject of "honor killings" is gradually becoming a matter of public controversy these
days. The incidence of these crimes appears to be rising although the response to them is ambiguous and
vacillating. There is little doubt that something alarming is happening — and has been happening for a
long while — and that what we are really witnessing is a form of culture-specific violent behavior. But
the general tendency among Muslim spokespeople and social activists is to average out these tragic events as
part of a garden variety social phenomenon that is statistically inevitable.
Girl
set alight for wearing lipstick. An 11-year-old girl has been set on fire by a relative in
India's northern city of Jaipur for wearing lipstick and being inappropriately dressed. Police say the
girl suffered burns over 90 percent of her body and her chances of survival are bleak. They've
arrested her great uncle who allegedly poured kerosene on the girl and set her alight yesterday. Investigators
say the 55-year-old man, a conservative Muslim, told the police he was enraged at the girl wearing lipstick and
being scantily dressed. But relatives have accused the man of trying to molest the girl and setting her
on fire when she objected.
Woman murdered in 'honour killing'.
A Jordanian man has murdered his sister for allegedly leaving home without permission, a security official said today.
"The crime took place in the (southern) province of Aqaba four days ago. The man claimed that he killed his sister
to cleanse his family's honour," the official said. The official refused to elaborate "because the authorities are
still investigating the killing". In Jordan, between 15 and 20 women are murdered annually in the name of
"honour". Last year 17 such killings were recorded.
Women are the Losers When We Concede to
the Muslim Hardliners. It is extraordinary that a government which has made such a fetish
of its commitment to equality should be creating a legal system which enshrines open discrimination against
women. For, like the rest of Islamic culture, sharia is profoundly misogynistic with women treated
as second-class citizens in everything from child custody to inheritance. Thanks to political
correctness, there has been a reluctance to tackle the oppression of women by Muslim men.
Somali woman executed by stoning. A woman
in Somalia has been stoned to death after an Islamic Sharia law court found her guilty of adultery. The woman was
buried up to her neck and then pelted to death with stones in front of a large crowd in Kismayo.
Raped girl, 13, stoned to
death. A 13-year-old girl who said she had been raped was stoned to death in Somalia after being
accused of adultery by Islamic militants, a human rights group said. Dozens of men stoned Aisha Ibrahim
Duhulow to death on October 27 in a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo,
Amnesty International and Somali media reported, citing witnesses.
Stoning victim 'begged for mercy'.
A young woman recently stoned to death in Somalia first pleaded for her life, a witness has told the BBC.

minutes later, more than 50 men threw stones. Human rights group Amnesty International says the victim
was a 13-year-old girl who had been raped.
A war of words over honour killings.
In its initial poster seeking fugitive Texas cab driver Yasser Abdel Said — sought for the double homicide
of his teenaged daughters — the bureau said he disapproved of their dating non-Muslim boys and stated that
they were murdered "due to an 'Honour Killing.' Though family members speculated that the father's Islamic
belief motivated the crime, the use of the phrase "honour killing" incensed the local Muslim-American community,
who argued that the accused's religion should not be linked to the double homicide, which left his two daughters
dead in the back of his taxi. After a public outcry, the FBI struck the offending words three weeks ago.
Who
Is Afraid to Say "Honor Killing"? The FBI removed all mention of the controversial term "honor
killing" from the wanted poster of a double-murder suspect after FOXNews.com ran a story announcing the use
of the term. Yasser Abdel Said, wanted for the murder of his two daughters, has eluded authorities for
almost a year. ... According to family members, Said felt he was compelled to kill his daughters because they
had disgraced the family by dating non-Muslims and acting too "Western."
Pakistani
newlyweds live in fear of honour killing. Pervez Chachar and his young wife live in the police headquarters
in the Pakistani city of Karachi. Their crime? They fell in love and married without their families' permission.
The newlyweds dare not venture out of the police station as they fear their families will hunt them down and kill them.
13-year-old
female suicide bomber kills four guards. A 13-year-old girl blew herself up at a checkpoint in central
Iraq on Monday [11/10/2008], killing four Sunni guards and wounding at least 15 civilians, a military and a medical
official said. ... Since the beginning of the year in Iraq more than 30 women have committed suicide compared with
only eight in 2007.
'Mother' of Iraqi women bomber network
arrested. A woman accused of helping recruit dozens of female suicide bombers looked into the
camera and described the process: trolling society for likely candidates and then patiently converting
the women from troubled souls into deadly attackers.
'Mum' had 80 women raped
for suicide missions. A woman suspected of recruiting more than 80 female suicide bombers has
confessed to organising their rapes so she could later convince them that martyrdom was the only way to escape
the shame. Samira Jassam, 51, was arrested by Iraqi police and confessed to recruiting the women and
orchestrating dozens of attacks.
Laura Bush
Condemns Taliban Attack on Schoolgirls. Laura Bush, broadening her reach as a foreign policy
spokeswoman for the Bush administration, condemned the Taliban on Thursday as "cowardly and shameful" for
this week's attack on eight Afghan schoolgirls who were doused with acid.
Taliban Blamed for Acid Attack on Afghan
Schoolgirls. No students showed up at Mirwais Mena girls' school in the Taliban's spiritual
birthplace the morning after it happened. A day earlier, men on motorcycles attacked 15 girls and
teachers with acid. The men squirted the acid from water bottles onto three groups of students and
teachers walking to school Wednesday [11/12/2008], principal Mehmood Qaderi said. Some of the girls
have burns only on their school uniforms but others will have scars on their faces.
Afghan acid attack victim vows to continue
schooling. A victim of an acid attack on schoolgirls in Afghanistan says she is determined to stay
in school even if that means risking death. The girl, who gave her name as just Shamsia, was the most
seriously injured of a group of girls attacked outside their school by unidentified men in the southern city
of Kandahar on Wednesday [11/12/2008].

northwestern tribesmen to bury five women alive because they wanted to choose their own husbands, telling
stunned members of Parliament to spare him their outrage. "These are centuries-old traditions, and I will
continue to defend them," Israr Ullah Zehri, who represents Baluchistan province, told The Associated Press
Saturday [8/30/2008]. "Only those who indulge in immoral acts should be afraid."
This is apparently the same incident, with the
death toll revised downward...
Three teenagers buried alive
in 'honour killings'. Three teenage girls who planned to defy their families and marry men of
their choice were buried alive in "honour killings". Now the Pakistani Government has been forced to
order an inquiry, six weeks after the crimes.
Saudi cleric urges Muslim women to cover up all but
one eye. Saudi cleric Sheikh Mohammed al-Habadan has declared that a Muslim veil, or hijab, that covers
all but the eyes encourages women to use eye make-up to look seductive, the BBC reported Friday. Al-Habadan has
called on Saudi women to wear a full veil, or niqab, which covers the entire face, including one eye. The
question of how much of her face a woman should cover is a controversial topic in many Muslim societies.
Nigerian man to divorce 82 wives.
A Nigerian religious leader with 86 wives has accepted an Islamic decree ordering him to divorce all
but four of them, local authorities say. A spokesman for the emir of Bida told the BBC that Mohammadu
Bello Abubakar, 84, agreed on Saturday [8/30/2008] to comply with the decree.
Disembowelled, then torn apart:
The price of daring to teach girls. The gunmen came at night to drag Mohammed Halim away from his
home, in front of his crying children and his wife begging for mercy. The 46-year-old schoolteacher
tried to reassure his family that he would return safely. But his life was over, he was part-disembowelled
and then torn apart with his arms and legs tied to motorbikes, the remains put on display as a warning to
others against defying Taliban orders to stop educating girls.
The Sham of Women's
Rights Under the Shari'a. The United Kingdom is on taking a first step toward a parallel legal
system for Muslims, and garnering applause for it. Both the Guardian and the Telegraph have
recently lauded a new Muslim marriage contract drawn up by a group of British Muslim organizations as a
breakthrough in Muslim women's rights in the UK. … But if this new marriage contract was required to give
Muslim women equal rights, how can these rights have already been enshrined in the shari'a?
Purge on Muslim clerics who
turn a blind eye to the abuse of women. Muslim spiritual leaders could be denounced publicly by
their own community as part of a campaign to expose imams whose silence on domestic abuse is leading to women
being burnt, lashed and raped in the name of Islam. Muslim scholars are to present the Government with
the names of imams who are alleged by members of their own communities to have refused to help abused women.
Imams are also accused of refusing to speak out against domestic abuse in their sermons because they fear
losing their clerical salaries and being sacked for broaching a "taboo" subject.
Honor Killings Among the
Palestinians: If a woman brings shame to the family — through allegations of
premarital or extramarital sex, by refusing an arranged marriage, or attempting to obtain a
divorce — her male relatives are bound by duty and culture to murder her.
Father Kills
Daughter; Doubted Virginity. A Jordanian man fatally shot his 17-year-old daughter whom he
suspected of having sex despite a medical exam that proved her chastity, an official said Thursday.
The man surrendered to police hours after the killing, saying he had done it for family honor.
Sister shot six times in alleged 'honour'
killing. A 26-year-old Jordanian man was charged with murder today [8/1/2008] after his 23-year-old sister was
shot dead in an apparent "honour" killing. The unnamed suspect allegedly shot his sister six times last night in
the Nqeira area south of the capital Amman, a security official said.
Muslims "Honor" Family by
Killing Women: In Pakistan and other predominantly Muslim countries, the phrase "family values"
has a somewhat different meaning than it does in civilized countries. In the United States and Canada, for
instance, when we refer to family values we are speaking of protecting the family and its members. To
Muslims, an important part of family values involves murdering female members of the family. It is called
"honor" killing.
Honor
Killings: Made in the USA. They have dishonored our shores for quite some time and
more keep coming our way. I am talking about honor killings in North America. In The Death of
Feminism, I write about honor murders in Missouri, Ohio, and in parts of New Jersey, New York, and Canada
which took place during the last quarter-century. Earlier this month, an Egyptian Arab Muslim father
in Dallas, Texas allegedly shot his two beautiful teenage daughters to death because he disapproved of
their American-style ways.
Police Say Georgia Man Killed Own Daughter to
Protect Family Honor. The 25-year-old victim, Sandeela Kanwal, was wed in Pakistan in an
arranged marriage. Police said Kanwal hadn't seen her husband, who lives in Chicago, for months.
According to police, there was "friction between father and victim" in the weeks leading up to the killing.
Saudi ban on woman
drivers may be eroding. Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that bans all
women — Saudi and foreign — from driving. The prohibition forces families to hire
live-in drivers, and women who cannot afford the $300-$400 a month for a driver must rely on male relatives to
drive them to work, school, shopping or the doctor.
Court to consider divorce for 8-year-old
girl. A Saudi court will next month hear a plea for divorce from an eight-year-old girl married off
by her father to a man in his fifties, the Arabic-language daily Al-Watan reported today [8/24/2008].
A
Response to Feminists on the Violent Oppression of Women in Islam. As recently as December 10,
a Muslim teenager was strangled by her father for refusing to wear a hijab without a protest from the American
feminist movement. And that is only one of many crimes committed in the name of Islam against Muslim
women over which the feminist movement continues to be silent. On New Year's Day, Amina Said, 18, and
her sister Sarah, 17, were shot dead in Irving, Texas. Police are searching for their father, Yaser
Abdel Said, on a warrant for capital murder. The girls' great aunt, Gail Gartrell, told reporters, "This
was an honor killing." Apparently Yaser Said murdered his daughters because they had non-Muslim
boyfriends.
"Honor
Killing" Dad Secretly Taped Girls. On New Year's Day 2008, two Texas teenagers Amina and
Sarah Said were shot dead, their bloodied bodies left in a taxi cab. The alleged shooter: their
father Yaser Said. In fact, Sarah appears to identify her Dad as the murderer in a 9-11 call —
her dying words.
This is a "religion of peace"? Really?
'Honor'
killing comes to the US. No one knows just how many Muslim girls and women are murdered
each year in the name of family "honor," since their deaths frequently go unreported and unpunished.
The cases that do come to light are ghastly. "Women and young girls are set ablaze, strangled, shot at,
clubbed, stabbed, tortured, axed, or stoned to death," a United Nations report noted in 2004. "Their bodies
are found mutilated with their throat slit, or they are chopped into pieces and thrown in a ditch."
Islamic Shariah Law Killings On Rise In
U.S.. Fox News aired a special on July 26 dealing with the rise of so-called Muslim honor
killings in America. The special described several cases involving Muslim teenage girls who were killed by
their fathers because they were dating non-Muslim boys — or objected to arranged marriages.
Jihad Comes to Dallas.
Amina and Sarah Said were murdered in Irving, Texas, an area with a large Muslim population that is also known to some
experts as a place where Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood may be active.
Murderous Mothers:
Texas-born Patricia ("Tissie") Said, formerly of the Owens family, is the mother who lured her two teenage daughters, Sarah and Amina,
to their deaths at the hands of their own father this past New Years Day in Dallas. How can a mother do such a thing?
The Case
of the Missing Honor Killing: I'm glad that America's Most Wanted chose to dramatize the honor
killing of Sarah and Amina Said in Dallas on Jan 1, 2008 by their father Yaser Abdul Said, who has been
missing ever since. I hope the program helps aid in his capture. I applaud on-camera narrator John
Walsh, who has turned his own grief at the loss of his child into something positive for so many others.
However, the dramatization was oddly, perhaps even purposefully misleading.
How Honor
Murderers Become Victims. Muslims have never launched a campaign against their own racism.
The Arab Muslim slave trade continues to this day in many forms, both in the Middle East and in the West,
especially among United Nations diplomats who are posted here. Muslim employers in Saudi Arabia are
not apologizing to their Philippina servants whom they imprison and routinely force to work around the
clock as domestics and sex slaves.
When
love is a crime: the horror of Britain's 'honour' killings. Police say 12 or
13 Britons — mainly women but very occasionally men — are the victims of honour killings
each year. Activists say the figure dramatically understates the true number and police
agree: they are reviewing 117 cases of women who died in mysterious circumstances in
the past 15 years, many of which are thought to have been honour killings.
Facing
jail: Violent husband who beat Muslim 'slave' bride 'every day' after arranged marriage. A
husband who constantly beat up his young wife and treated her as a 'slave' has been told he will be jailed.
Sania Bibi, 20, arrived in Britain from Pakistan following an arranged marriage to Haroon Akhtar and was forced
to work 17-hour days cooking, cleaning and washing clothes for his family.
A
Cutting Tradition. When a girl is taken — usually by her mother — to
a free circumcision event held each spring in Bandung, Indonesia, she is handed over to a small group of
women who, swiftly and yet with apparent affection, cut off a small piece of her genitals. … Female
genital cutting — commonly identified among international human rights groups as female genital
mutilation — has been outlawed in 15 African countries. Many industrialized countries
also have similar laws.
Oslo couple charged with mutilating their daughters.
The mother and father of five daughters born and reared in Norway have been charged in what's considered the first enforcement and test of
the country's new law against genital mutilation. The couple is originally from Gambia but both partners are now Norwegian citizens.
They have a total of six daughters, and five of the six have been subjected to genital mutilation, according to Hanne Kristin Rohde of the
Oslo Police District.
Ruth Rendell
speaks out against female genital mutilation. Female genital mutilation has been practised for
centuries, principally in the Horn of Africa; the UN estimates 6,000 young girls are subjected to it every
day, in 28 countries. Those under the age of 15 are "cut", their genitalia maimed or even removed, and
the wound sewn up. The practice is believed to encourage chastity and prevent sexual pleasure, and
many parents still believe it is the only way their daughters will be able to find good husbands.
A right to
asylum? Growing up in the West African nation of Mali, Alima Traore assumed that girls
everywhere had to undergo the procedure. "In my country, it is usually an old lady" who performs
the crude surgery, the 29-year-old woman said during an interview in her attorney's Rockville office.
"They have a traditional knife for it. They cut your intimate parts. This knife is used for
many girls."
Police
charge woman with female genital mutilation of 10 month old. A LaGrange [Georgia] woman has been
arrested and charged with the female genital mutilation of her 10-month-old baby and second-degree cruelty
to children.
For Kurdish Girls, a
Painful Ancient Ritual. As the midwife sliced off part of Sheelan's genitals, the girl let out a high-pitched
wail heard throughout the neighborhood. As she carried the sobbing child back home, Sheelan's mother smiled with
pride. "This is the practice of the Kurdish people for as long as anyone can remember," said the mother, Aisha Hameed,
30, a housewife in this ethnically mixed town about 100 miles north of Baghdad. "We don't know why we do it, but
we will never stop because Islam and our elders require it." Kurdistan is the only known part of Iraq — and
one of the few places in the world — where female circumcision is widespread.
The Myths about Female Genital
Mutilation. Today, after 30 years of widely unsuccessful efforts for an end of the torturing
mutilations, the time is overripe to identify, name and overcome all the fatal myths, lies and fundamental
errors which continue to be spread even by so-called scientists and even most "activists". To reveal
all those myths is about much more than being right or wrong; it's about explaining WHY most strategies in
the fight to end FGM until now are predestined to fail — and to be not much more than a waste of
money, time, energy and resources — while millions of little girls continue to be maimed every
year. It's about going to the roots and finding out the baleful mechanisms that lead to the
continuation of this violent practice.
Embracing Female Genital
Mutilation. There is no limit to the depravity of the cultists who worship at the altar of
multiculturalism. 100 to 140 million girls and women around the world have been subjected
to genital mutilation. And now, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is embracing this barbaric
expression of misogyny in the name of cultural sensitivity and immigrant outreach.
Sanctioning
Barbarity: Female genital mutilation is not the only horrific Islamic custom that is coming
West. The number of honor killings is skyrocketing in Europe and America. It has been reported
that thousands of girls in the United Kingdom have been mutilated and the authorities can't (or won't)
stop it. To the credit of the U.K. media, at least they have been having a public discussion
about it. It's happening here, but to speak of it publicly would insult CAIR.
The Subjection of
Islamic Women and the fecklessness of American feminism. The subjection of women in Muslim
societies — especially in Arab nations and in Iran — is today very much in the public
eye. Accounts of lashings, stonings, and honor killings are regularly in the news, and searing memoirs
by Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Azar Nafisi have become major best-sellers. One might expect that by now American
feminist groups would be organizing protests against such glaring injustices, joining forces with the valiant
Muslim women who are working to change their societies. This is not happening.
Religion of
Peace update: The image hardly fits our idea of the happy couple's wedding picture —
but this haunting photograph taken in Afghanistan graphically captures life for millions of girls given in
marriage while under age. It shows Mohammed, 40, with his new 11-year-old wife, Ghulam.
Harems Pay Off for
Muslims. Hundreds of [Toronto area] Muslim men in polygamous marriages — some
with a harem of wives — are receiving welfare and social benefits for each of their spouses,
thanks to the city and province, Muslim leaders say. Mumtaz Ali, president of the
Canadian Society of Muslims, said wives in polygamous marriages are recognized as spouses
under the Ontario Family Law Act, providing they were legally married under Muslim laws
abroad.

Mosque Child
Abuse in America. Not only does Al-Farooq provide materials by convicted Islamic terrorists to their
worshippers, they practice polygamy (per statements made by Al Farooq worshippers) as allowed under Sharia law, which
also advocates children to be taken as 'child brides' married to older men. One need only research how often this
occurs in Somalia.
Liberals and
Child Brides: There is a debate going on in the Saudi press about the practice of marrying
off young girls to men who are decades older. In March, a Saudi judge declined to annul the marriage
of 8-year-old girl who was married to a 47-year-old man. The child's mother had petitioned the court
for redress, as she opposed the marriage. The girl's father, the wife alleged, had sold the
third-grader to a close friend in payment of a debt.
Saudis 'to regulate' child brides.
Saudi Arabia says it plans to start regulating the marriage of young girls, amid controversy over a union between
a 60-year-old man and a girl of eight. A court in Unaiza upheld the marriage on condition the groom does
not have sex with her until she reaches puberty.
11-year-old
marries 10-year-old cousin. An 11-year-old boy has married his 10-year-old cousin in the
ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mohammed al-Rashidi and his unidentified cousin will
seal the marriage they contracted under the sharia laws of Islam and move in together after a ceremony to
take place in the summer, Al-Shams newspaper reports today.

Muslim cleric
marries 12 year old. An Indonesian child protection agency is investigating reports
of a marriage between a Muslim cleric and a 12-year-old girl, the Jakarta Post newspaper reported
on Sunday. The newspaper said the 43-year-old cleric from Central Java allegedly married the
minor girl with her parents' consent in August and planned to marry two more girls, aged seven and
nine.
10-year-old girls can marry'.
Saudi Arabia's senior-most cleric said girls as young as 10 years old can be married, local media reported
on Wednesday. The powerful Grand Mufti Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh said in a speech late on Monday that Islamic
Sharia law allows the practice of pre-teen girls getting married, and that critics of the practice were doing
the girls "an injustice", reports said.
Islamists Fight Yemen Law Banning
Child Marriage. She was 2 years old when her father promised her in marriage to a man in
his 30s. It was a swap, so the father could marry the man's sister without paying the obligatory
bride-price. At age 9, the girl was put on a sack of rice to appear taller next to the bridegroom
in the wedding picture. At 11, she was taken to her husband's house to live. Despite
promising not to consummate the marriage before she reached puberty, he tied her to a bed, stuffed a rag in
her mouth and raped her, she says.
Saudi court tells girl aged eight she cannot divorce 58-year-old husband.
A Saudi court has rejected a plea to divorce an eight-year-old girl married off by her father to a man who is 58, saying the
case should wait until the girl reaches puberty. ... "She doesn't know yet that she has been married," [Lawyer Abdullar]
Jtili said then of the girl who was about to begin her fourth year at primary school.
Britain clears the way for polygamy
benefits. Bigamy is outlawed in Britain, but authorities have never prosecuted Muslim men who
had legally married more than one woman abroad and continued to live with them after immigrating.
Shariah permits men to have up to four wives at one time.

I do There has been an angry, even hysterical reaction to the revelation that there are a number of
polygamous families in Canada where Muslim men are married to up to four wives. Immigration law is fluid on
the issue, with some experts arguing that immigrants already in such relationships may continue them in
Canada. … And thus the inevitable. I predict that polygamy will be legal and accepted in this
country within five years.
Murder in the Family: Honor Killings in
America. Zein Isa, a Palestinian terrorist who lived in St. Louis, was convicted of killing his
daughter Palestina in 1989. Investigators say he was furious she had a black boyfriend, went to a school
dance and got a job at Wendy's. Palestina's mother held her down as Isa plunged a 9-inch knife into his
daughter's chest, actions the FBI picked up on a microphone as they investigated Isa for his terrorist ties.
The
Islamist war on Muslim women. The "Qatif girl" won a reprieve last week. On Dec. 17,
Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah pardoned the young woman, who was sentenced to 200 lashes and six months in
prison after she pressed charges against seven men who had raped her and a male acquaintance in 2006. … But
for every "Qatif girl" or Nazanin who is saved, there are far too many other Muslim girls and women for whom
deliverance never comes.
Saudi punishes gang
rape victim with 200 lashes. A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia is
punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail, a newspaper reported on
Thursday [11/15/2007]. The 19-year-old woman — whose six armed attackers have been sentenced
to jail terms — was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated
male at the time of the rape," the Arab News reported.

husband blames judge for punishment. The husband of a Saudi rape victim sentenced to 200 lashes
and six months in prison said his wife is "a crushed human being," but blamed a judge — not the
Saudi judicial system — for treating her as a criminal.
Islam vs. Women — Where are the
Feminists? If a woman is raped in an Islamic-run country, it is the woman's fault. She

Woman shot in honour killing a virgin.
Police said they had charged a Jordanian with premeditated murder after his 23-year-old sister and her boyfriend
were shot dead in an apparent "honour killing". "The suspect shot his sister four times and her Syrian
shepherd boyfriend six times when he caught them (together) red-handed early on Sunday" in the eastern Shumari
natural reserve near the desert city of Azraq, a spokesman said. "He turned himself in shortly after the
crime, and forensic tests proved that his sister was still a virgin when she was murdered."
Brother
praised for 'honor killing' attempt. A 19-year-old Israeli Arab woman has survived an attempted
"honor killing" by her brother on Tuesday in the Arab village of Na'ura, near Afula, after two bullets fired
at her head shattered on impact, failing to penetrate her skull. Paramedics said the girl survived by
playing dead, leading her brother to stop shooting and kicking her. … The 24-year-old suspect was warmly
praised by some members of his family for the attempted murder. He is in police custody.
'Honor Killing' Motive for Slain Sisters?
It's been one week since two teen sisters were found shot to death inside a cab outside a Texas hotel, and their
father, who police say is the sole suspect in the New Year's Day killings, remains at large. Authorities
tell ABC News that the investigation so far has produced few solid leads as to Yaser Abdel Said's whereabouts,
and they fear he may have fled the country, perhaps even to his native Egypt.

in Pakistan. Voting stopped at women-only polling stations in parts of northwest Pakistan after
elders decided that women should not cast ballots, police and officials said. … Men and women vote at
separate locations throughout Pakistan, an Islamic republic.
Using the Disabled for the
Jihad. For a while it looked as if the US military's surge was pacifying Baghdad. Now it
seems al-Qaida may have found depraved ways around new security measures — including female
"suicide" bombers, recruited from mental hospitals.
Judge orders man's leg cut
off: A Muslim court in northern Nigeria has ordered that a 45-year-old man's leg be amputated as
punishment for doing the same to his wife. The Upper Sharia in the town of Bauchi made the order against
Adamu Hussaini Maidoya, who cut off the right leg of his wife, Amina. He accused her of infidelity, after
"over exposing" herself to a doctor to get an injection.
A
question of honour: Police say 17,000 women are victims every year. Ministers are stepping
up the fight against so-called 'honour' crime and forced marriages. Detectives say official statistics
are 'merely the tip of the iceberg' of this phenomenon.
US:
Iraqi Women Bomber Trainer Caught. The U.S. military announced the capture Saturday [3/1/2008] of an insurgent leader who was
recruiting and training women, including his wife, to wrap themselves in explosives and blow
themselves up — the latest sign that al-Qaida in Iraq plans to keep using women
to carry out suicide attacks.
It's
time to take a stand against Islam and Sharia. Picture this, says Maryam Namazie: "A child
is swathed in cloth from head to toe every day. Everything but her face and hands are covered for fear
that a man might find her attractive. At school she learns that she is worth less than a boy. She
is not allowed to dance or swim or feel the sun on her skin or the wind in her hair. This is clearly
unacceptable, yet it is accepted when it is done in the name of religion."
Tortured
and murdered … by her father. The 20-year-old was raped and garrotted during an ordeal lasting
more than two-and-a-half hours at her family home in south London last year after falling in love with a man her
family thought was unsuitable. Her body was later found in a suitcase beneath a house in Birmingham,
central England. Members of her family and several family friends had plotted her murder.
Saudi women 'kept in childhood'. Saudi women
are being kept in perpetual childhood so male relatives can exercise "guardianship" over them, the Human Rights Watch group
has said. The New York-based group says Saudi women have to obtain permission from male relatives to work, travel,
study, marry or even receive health care.
Girl of 8 seeking divorce.
An eight-year-old girl has sought the help of a judge to seek a divorce after two months of forced marriage to
a 30-year-old man in Yemen, said press reports on Sunday [4/13/2008]. Nojoud Muhammad Nasser lodged a
compliant at a court in the capital, Sana'a, last week against her father who forced her to marry a man
22 years her senior, and asked the judge to secure her divorce.
Update:
Yemeni girl, 8, gets
divorce after forced marriage. Her former husband, 28-year-old Faez Ali Thameur, said he married
the child "with her consent and that of her parents" but that he did not object to her divorce petition.
In response to a question from Judge Mohammed al-Qadhi, he acknowledged that the "marriage was consummated,
but I did not beat her."
Honour killing's Aussie link:
Mortally wounded and bleeding profusely, Pela Atroshi covered her head with her hands, pleading "please don't shoot me,
please don't shoot me". As her sister and her mother screamed, her uncle Rezkar Atroshi raised his gun and killed
her. The family's honour had been cleansed. … "Pela's uncle, the oldest son of Abdulmajid, said if any of the
unmarried girls is away from home for one night, she has to be killed," Inspector Algamo said on the phone from Stockholm.
Father kills girl who fell
in love with Briton. A 17-YEAR-OLD girl has been murdered by her father in an "honour killing"
after falling in love with a British soldier in Iraq, it was reported yesterday [4/27/2008]. Rand
Abdel-Qader, from Basra, was killed after her family found out she had formed a friendship with
a 22-year-old infantryman she knew as Paul.
Saudi
man given 150 lashes for unchaperoned meeting with woman. A Saudi Arabian man has been sentenced to
eight months in prison and 150 lashes after he was caught meeting a woman without a chaperone in a coffee shop.
Militants
burn down girls' school in north-west Pakistan. 'The masked men directed me to remove all the copies of Koran
and then set the school on fire,' a watchman, Toti Gul, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. The militants also planted
homemade bombs in the school's science laboratory; however, they did not go off and were later defused by a bomb disposal
squad, the watchman said. A number of attacks on girls' schools have been reported in the past and these were believed
to be carried out by pro-Taliban fighters commanded by a local radical cleric, Maulana Fazlullah.
Jordanian woman killed to save family's honor.
A man who was suspected of drowning his 22-year-old sister for having an extramarital affair was charged Monday
[5/12/2008] with premeditated murder, a judicial official said. The unidentified woman's brother beat her
with the help of his family Saturday and then took her to the Dead Sea where he drowned her, said the official,
who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
Indian village proud after double
"honor killing". Five armed men burst into the small room and courtyard at dawn, just as
21-year-old, 22-week pregnant, Sunita was drying her face on a towel. They punched and kicked her
stomach as she called out for her sleeping boyfriend "Jassa", 22-year-old Jasbir Singh, witnesses said.
When he woke, both were dragged into waiting cars, driven away and strangled.
Egyptian
farmer hangs, decapitates daughter in 'honour' killing. An Egyptian farmer who suspected his 16-year-old
daughter was having an affair hanged her and then beheaded her body in the southern province of Bani Soueif, it was
reported Sunday [5/25/2008]. The local daily Al-Akhbar said Abdel-Samad, 46, turned himself to the police after
the killing.
Honour
killing claims life of six-year-old. A six-year-old girl was killed in an arson attack on her
family home by men who disapproved of a relationship her older brother was having with a teenager, a court
heard today [9/19/2006].
Open Season on Jewish
Women. [Naveed Afsal] Haq's brutal attack is no ordinary crime. It is the product of an
Islamic culture that denigrates women in general and a jihadist culture that specifically seeks to destroy
life. Thus, many Islamic suicide killers will purposely target pregnant women or women with small
children before they blow themselves up.
Saudis Consider Banning Women
From Mecca. Officials are considering an unprecedented proposal to ban women from performing
the five Muslim prayers in the immediate vicinity of Islam's most sacred shrine in Mecca. Some
say women are already being kept away.
Women are back under
wraps with Taliban vice squad. Afghanistan's notorious Department for the Promotion of Virtue
and Prevention of Vice, which was set up by the Taliban to enforce bans on women doing anything from working to
wearing nail varnish or laughing out loud, is to be recreated by the Government in Kabul. The decision
has provoked an outcry among women and human rights activists who fear a return to the days when religious
police patrolled the streets, beating or arresting any woman who was not properly covered by a burka or
accompanied by a male relative.
It's the
end of the world as we know it, stupid! To our tolerant Western society, it sounds
harmless enough — until you realize that the Koran encourages, indeed demands, all kinds of medieval
ideas which are anathema to free men and women. Most recently, this was illustrated by the case of a
19-year-old Saudi woman who was sentenced to 200 lashes of the whip after being gang-raped by seven men.
… It should be considered a sign of the great difficulty the West faces in assimilating the
world's 1.2 billion Muslims into the modern community that none of them could properly be offended
by the young woman's sentence without renouncing the core of their religion. Remember: The
Middle Ages never ended; they just moved to the Middle East.

Slapping a wife 'is okay'.
A Saudi judge has told a seminar on domestic violence that it is okay for a man to slap his wife for lavish
spending, a local newspaper reported on Sunday. Jeddah judge Hamad al-Razine gave the example of
overspending to buy a high-end abaya, the head-to toe black shroud Saudi women have to wear in public, as
justifying a smack for one's wife, Arab News said.
Making
the Muslims love us. Feminists in the United States, eager to blame fundamentalist
Christians for everything, are reluctant to criticize fundamentalist Muslims for anything. But
a cursory scan of the Internet finds several sites beginning to expose the way Muslim men both here
and abroad get a politically correct pass in the name of multicultural tolerance. When all
cultures are considered equal, it's difficult to criticize culturally protected traditions, even
if those traditions brutalize women.
Slave-girls as sexual
property in the Quran. The Quran makes women subordinate to men in many ways. But
no women subject to the rule of Quranic law are more unfortunate than slave girls. According to
the eternal and unchanging scripture of Islam, men are permitted to treat them as sexual property
regardless of their wishes, under certain specified circumstances.

Daughter; Doubted Virginity. A Jordanian man fatally shot his 17-year-old daughter whom he
suspected of having sex despite a medical exam that proved her chastity, an official said Thursday.
The man surrendered to police hours after the killing, saying he had done it for family honor.
Sister is stabbed to death for loving
the wrong man. A [British] businessman is facing a life sentence for stabbing his sister to death in front
of his two young daughters in a so-called honor killing. Azhar Nazir, 30, and his cousin, 17, used four
knives to cut Samaira Nazir's throat and repeatedly stab her after she fell in love with an asylum-seeker from
what they saw as an unsuitable caste. … The father was also charged with the murder but fled to Pakistan,
where he has gone into hiding.
The first lady is wrong:
It wasn't terrorism that oppressed women in Afghanistan. It was Islamism. In Saudi Arabia, women
are oppressed every bit as much as they were in Afghanistan. They can't even drive cars. Now, we've
been told over and over again by the Bush administration that we are not at war with Islam. We've been
told ad nauseum what a wonderful religion it is. President Bush even invited 50 Islamic ambassadors
to the White House this week for Ramadan prayers.
Muslim Women as Human Shields:
Would any American, European or Israeli man call for his wife, mother, sister or daughter to come into a
fire-fight and stand as a human shield to protect him? The Arab Muslim Palestinians, on the other hand,
think nothing of using women, children and the elderly as "human shields."
Warning on al-Qaeda's new female
recruits. European intelligence chiefs have launched a major investigation into the threat
posed by female Islamic militants within the EU, whose involvement runs from logistics or propaganda activity
to suicide bombing, they say. 'This phenomenon has not been really taken into account yet and we need
to explore and understand it,' said one diplomatic official connected with the probe. 'It is a new
strategy by al-Qaeda.'
Women demand equal
opportunities — to blow themselves to smithereens. In a bizarre demand for sexual equality,
Islamic women extremists are insisting that al-Qaeda gives them the right to become suicide bombers and terrorists.
Many women have responded with a mixture of anger and dismay to online advice from Osama bin Laden's right-hand man that
they should keep to being housewives.
Murderers without honour:
Leila Hussein lived her last few weeks in terror. Moving constantly from safe house to safe house, she dared to stay no longer
than four days at each. It was the price she was forced to pay after denouncing and divorcing her husband, the man she
witnessed suffocate, stamp on, then stab their young daughter Rand in a brutal honour killing for which he had shown no remorse.
Allah and His Messenger's Extreme Hatred

Islam's Domestic Animals. [In] the most hallowed speech by Muhammad, he had clearly described
women as domestic animals, and instructed their husbands to beat them if they suspect that their wives' behavior
are not to their satisfaction. Please note that those were Muhammad's last decrees to Muslim husbands.
Every Muslim husband is duty bound by those instructions of Muhammad.
Malaysia city orders Muslim women not
to wear bright lipstick, noisy heels. Authorities in a northern Malaysian city have forbidden
Muslim women from wearing bright lipstick and noisy high-heeled shoes to work, saying the ban will enhance
their dignity and prevent them from getting raped, a news report said.

I doubt if it is possible to prevent rape in a society where women are treated
like animals.
The
"Great Mind" of a "Wife-Beating" Author. Within the worldwide Muslim community, there are a
number of actions that most clear thinking individuals would consider barbarous towards women. They
include stonings, honor killings, clitorectomies (female circumcisions), forced clothing (hijabs, burkas,
etc.), and wife-beatings.
Brother
of girl killed in apparent hijab incident charged. The brother of a Mississauga, Ont., teenager
who was strangled to death in her home has been charged with first-degree murder. Aqsa Parvez was 16
when she was strangled to death in December 2007 during what friends said was a family dispute over her
reluctance to wear a hijab.
Honor
Killings: "Honor killings" are distressingly common throughout the Muslim world. Phyllis
Chesler reports that "in 1997, in Cairo Egypt, twenty-five-year-old Nora Marzouk Ahmed's honeymoon ended when
her father chopped off her head and carried it down the street. 'Now,' he said, 'the family has
regained its honor.' Nora's crime? She had eloped."
Stop
Honorcide. The idea behind this campaign is to attract attention to this problem and to
prosecute honorcides to the fullest extent of the law. We believe the most pragmatic way to achieve
this goal is to classify honorcide as a hate crime.
An
American 'Honor Killing'. On July 6, police say, a Pakistani named Chaudhry Rashid strangled
his 25-year-old daughter Sandeela Kanwal with a Bungee cord in her bedroom because she wanted to end her
arranged marriage. This "honor killing" came not in Pakistan, but in Jonesboro, Ga. -- a suburb
16 miles outside Atlanta.

No Women on Saudi Olympic
Team. When the delegation of Tuvalu enters the Olympic stadium in Beijing on Friday evening for
what will be its debut Games, the tiny Pacific island nation of just 11,000 people will be represented by two
athletes and a weightlifter — two men and one woman. … [But] Saudi Arabia, with a population
of 28 million, will field a team — athletes, equestrians, swimmers, shooters and
weightlifters — that doesn't include a single woman.
Iraqi
father proud of daughter's 'honour killing'. Abdel-Qader Ali claimed the 'honour killing' was
supported by local police, and said his only regret was that he had not killed his daughter at birth.
Rand Abdel-Qader, who was studying English at Basra University, was stamped on, suffocated and stabbed by
her father, with help from her two older brothers.
'My daughter deserved to die for falling in
love'. For Abdel-Qader Ali there is only one regret: that he did not kill his daughter at birth.
'If I had realised then what she would become, I would have killed her the instant her mother delivered her,' he said with
no trace of remorse. ... Abdel-Qader, 46, a government employee, was initially arrested but released after two hours.
Astonishingly, he said, police congratulated him on what he had done. 'They are men and know what honour is,' he
said.
It's
Barbie in a burkha. One of the world's most famous children's toys, Barbie, has been given a
makeover — wearing a burkha.
What
signal does Barbie's burka send? Women forbidden by law from feeling sunlight — hey,
that's a positive message for young girls.
Burka Barbie. Sharia Law prohibits
any representation of the human form, and it is quite strict about depicting Allah's other creations among the
animal kingdom as well. Fish seem to be exempt from this prohibition, for reasons that I still do not
completely understand. In any case, Islam also assumes that portraying mythical creatures, from golden
idols to Kewpie people, might tempt gullible believers away from the true path.
Iranian official warns
against importing Barbie doll. A top Iranian judiciary official warned Monday against the "destructive"
cultural and social consequences of importing Barbie dolls and other Western toys. Prosecutor General Ghorban Ali
Dori Najafabadi said in an official letter to Vice President Parviz Davoudi that the Western toys was a "danger" that
needed to be stopped.
The Editor says...
I will concede and stipulate that Barbie generally dresses like a whore. But here's how the problem is handled in
free societies: If you don't like Barbie, leave her on the shelf at the toy store.
