This very recent development is being called Climategate in the British press, and until more information is available, I'll just present the news reports as they are, and let you decide if the newly uncovered documents prove a conspiracy or just blind fanaticism. The newest information is being added to the bottom of the page as it becomes available. Climategate:  The final nail in the coffin of 'Anthropogenic Global Warming'?  If you own any shares in alternative energy companies I should start dumping them NOW.  The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet. Global Warming's 'Blue Dress' Moment?  Anthony [Watts] is a meteorologist who blew the lid on the scandalous placement of official U.S. government thermometers — even movement to — asphalt pads, Arizona parking lots, next to hot air vents, above barbecue grills, and so on with the convenient result of a warming bias.  I will put all of this in full context as more analysis of the revelations and their meaning emerge, but just know this was described to me as "the closest thing you're ever going to come to a 'smoking gun.'" CRU has apparently been hacked — hundreds of files released.  The details on this are still sketchy, we'll probably never know what went on.  But it appears that University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit has been hacked and many many files have been released by the hacker or person unknown. Scientific scandal appears to rock climate change promoters.  There's big news for climate change students.  A hacker has gotten into the computers at Hadley CRU, Britain's largest climate research institute and a proponent of global warming, and seems to have uncovered evidence of substantial fraud in reporting the "evidence" on global warming; the unlawful destruction of records to cover up this fraud, conspiracy, and deceit in the entire operation. Climate sceptics claim leaked emails are evidence of collusion among scientists.  Hundreds of private emails and documents allegedly exchanged between some of the world's leading climate scientists during the past 13 years have been stolen by hackers and leaked online, it emerged today.  The computer files were apparently accessed earlier this week from servers at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, a world-renowned centre focused on the study of natural and anthropogenic climate change. The smoking iceberg?  Data that has been hacked from the Hadley Centre's Climatic Research Unit at East Anglia University — one of the principal academic centres behind anthropogenic global warming theory — appears to reveal an international conspiracy of scientific experts to distort, falsify or suppress evidence in order to exaggerate man-made global warming, and also to vilify AGW sceptics in order to rubbish and bury their own evidence. The Evidence of Climate Fraud.  A folder containing documents, data and, e-mails purportedly "hacked" from Britain's Climate Research Unit (CRU) may be smoking-gun proof of a worldwide conspiracy to exaggerate the existence, causation, and threat of global warming.  And the list of apparent conspirators includes many of the world's leading climate alarmists — the very scientists on whose work the entire anthropogenic global warming theory is based. ... [S]uch manipulation of evidence should be treated as exactly what it is:  larceny on the grandest scale in history. Release of CRU files forges a new hockey stick reconstruction.  It seems no matter where you look, "hockey stick" shapes pop out of data related to climate.  Today, the most extraordinary day in climate science seen in quite some time, was no exception.  And, the day is not over. CRU Emails — search engine now online.  Quite a lot of interest continues in the files from CRU that were leaked/hacked and placed on a Russian FTP server.  Quite a number of other websites have been things with them ranging from commentary to evaluation of validity. Warmist conspiracy exposed?  The University of East Anglia CRU director admits the emails seem to be genuine ... So the 1079 emails and 72 documents seem indeed evidence of a scandal involving most of the most prominent scientists pushing the man-made warming theory — a scandal that is one of the greatest in modern science. The global warmist conspiracy — and the Australian link.  The leaked emails from the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit indicate an astonishing conspiracy of the world's leading warmist scientists, involving collusion, rigged evidence, suppression of dissent, the possibly illegal destruction of evidence under FOI request, and the smearing of sceptical scientists. The warmist conspiracy.  These are the emails that should have Professor Phil Jones most worried about his future.  Jones, head of the CRU unit whose emails were leaked, has been under most fire so far over one email in particular in which he boasted of using a '"trick" to "hide the decline" that would have otherwise spoiled his graph showing temperatures soaring ever-upward.  But far more serious — at least in a legal sense — may be his apparent boasting of destroying data to stop sceptics from checking this alarmist work. Sceptics publish climate e-mails 'stolen from East Anglia University'.  E-mails allegedly written by some of the world's leading climate scientists have been stolen by hackers and published on websites run by climate change sceptics.  The sceptics claim that the e-mails are evidence that scientists manipulated data in order to strengthen their argument that human activities were causing global warming. Climate Skeptics See 'Smoking Gun' in Researchers' Leaked E-Mails.  Hackers broke into the servers at a prominent British climate research center and leaked years worth of e-mail messages onto the Web, including one with a reference to a plan to "hide the decline" in temperatures.  The Internet is abuzz about the leaked data from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (commonly called Hadley CRU), which has acknowledged the theft of 61MB of confidential data. Global Warming Bombshell.  The emails I've reviewed so far do not suggest that these scientists are perpetrating a knowing and deliberate hoax.  On the contrary, they are true believers.  I don't doubt that they are sincerely convinced — in fact, fanatically so — that human activity is warming the earth.  But the emails are disturbing nonetheless.  What they reveal, more than anything, is a bunker mentality.  These pro-global warming scientists see themselves as under siege, and they view AGW skeptics as bitter enemies. ... Get That Hacker a Pimp Coat.  What made the ACORN-exposing work of James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles so sensational was that they successfully infiltrated the habitats of the subjects they investigated, and observed their routine behaviors. ... So now an actual hacker — or an insider — has exposed something similar in the global warming activism realm:  scientists at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (regarded as Britain's top authority) caught in behaviors they would never want the outside world to see. Manipulating Climate Change:  Warming to RICO?  I have explained with intermittent impatience that just serially lying or exaggerating to deceive are not on their face RICO "predicate" offenses.  There must be three instances of a certain type of enumerated behavior over ten years to constitute a pattern in violation of RICO.  I have received an email from someone who has much appropriate training and experience and which causes me to revisit the issue. In the trenches on climate change, hostility among foes.  Electronic files that were stolen from a prominent climate research center and made public last week provide a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes battle to shape the public perception of global warming.  While few U.S. politicians bother to question whether humans are changing the world's climate — nearly three years ago the U.N. CRU Files Betray Climate Alarmists' Funding Hypocrisy.  It seems that while scientists who accept funding from oil companies are branded as bought-and-paid-for shills, those financed by renewable energy interests remain unchallenged authorities in their fields.  Words can't adequately express my astonishment.  Amid the thousands of files apparently misappropriated from Britain's Climate Research Unit (CRU) last week sit two documents on the subject of the unit's funding. British climate expert 'cheered' by Aussie's death.  Computer hackers have broken into Britain's leading climate science research centre, making public thousands of private emails between top climate change scientists.  The messages — more than 2000 emails and 3000 documents — lay bare bitter disagreements about the cause of climate change.  In one email, the head of Britain's Climatic Research Unit, Phil Jones, says he is "cheered" by news of the sudden death of a prominent Australian climate sceptic, John L. Daly, who died of a heart attack at his Launceston home in 2004. Congress May Probe Leaked Global Warming E-Mails.  A few days after leaked e-mail messages appeared on the Internet, the U.S. Congress may probe whether prominent scientists who are advocates of global warming theories misrepresented the truth about climate change.  Sen. James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican, said on Monday [11/23/2009] the leaked correspondence suggested researchers "cooked the science to make this thing look as if the science was settled, when all the time of course we knew it was not," according to a transcript of a radio interview posted on his Web site. Storm clouds gather over leaked climate e-mails.  The online publication of sensitive e-mails and documents from a British climate centre is brewing into one of the scientific controversies of the year, causing dismay among affected institutes and individuals.  The tone and content of some of the disclosed correspondence are raising concerns that the leak is damaging the credibility of climate science on the eve of the United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen in December. The CRU Hack.  James Delingpole at the Telegraph thinks it may be "the final nail in the coffin of 'Anthropogenic Global Warming'" but adds "there are too many vested interests in AGW, with far too much to lose either in terms of reputation or money, for this to end without a bitter fight." The Death Blow to Climate Science.  Global Warming is often called a hoax.  I disagree because a hoax has a humorous intent to puncture pomposity.  In science, such as with the Piltdown Man hoax, it was done to expose those with fervent but blind belief.  The argument that global warming is due to humans, known as the anthropogenic global warming theory (AGW) is a deliberate fraud.  I can now make that statement without fear of contradiction because of a remarkable hacking of files that provided not just a smoking gun, but an entire battery of machine guns. Well, of course!  What else could he say? Climate change scientists reject claims they 'manipulated' data.  The director of a climate research unit at the centre of a row over manipulating data on global warming after hundreds of private emails were stolen by hackers said today it was 'ludicrous' to suggest anything untoward took place during the research. WaPo:  Climate Schemers 'Under Attack' By Skeptics Who Dare to Question.  The release of internal emails from Britain's University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit shows scientists plotting to ostracize and marginalize other researchers who question their assumptions on anthropogenic global warming.  Yet the Washington Post finds that such a strategy is but a natural reaction to attacks on these scientists by climate skeptics. The devastating book which debunks climate change.  Just imagine if we learned we were about to be landed with the biggest bill in the history of the world — simply on the say-so of a group of scientists.  Would we not want to be absolutely sure that those scientists were 100 percent dependable in what they were saying?  Should we not then be extremely worried — and even very angry — if it emerged that those scientists had been conspiring among themselves to fiddle the evidence for what they were telling us? Global Warming Meltdown: Climategate!  The truth about some of the scientists behind the global warming hoax has finally arrived. ... For years the IPCC has been controlled by a handful of the worst liars in the world, utterly devoted to taking actual climate data and twisting it to confirm the assertion that the Earth was not only warming dramatically, but that humanity was in peril of rising oceans, melting glaciers and polar ice caps, more hurricanes, the die-off of countless animal species, and every other calamity that could possibly be attributed to "global warming", including acne. Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!  At last, major global warming scientists, some based in England, are shown to be what they are — shameful pushers of lies and scientific fraud.  Those of us who oppose the movement already know they are liars, but it is important that their deceptions are brought out into the open for all to see.  They have derogated and scorned reputable scientists for opposing warming ideas, so now let them be scorned by their own discovered deceptions. Gore's Manipulation Continues With CRU.  How much longer will Al Gore get a pass from the mainstream media?  A little bit longer if their failure to react to the devastating revelations of files hacked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia is a measure.  Their behavior reflects how most, especially from the left, have abetted the scientists who deliberately perverted climate science. ClimateGate:  The Fix is In.  In early October, I covered a breaking story about evidence of corruption in the basic temperature records maintained by key scientific advocates of the theory of man-made global warming.  Global warming "skeptics" had unearthed evidence that scientists at the Hadley Climatic Research Unit at Britain's University of East Anglia had cherry-picked data to manufacture a "hockey stick" graph showing a dramatic-but illusory-runaway warming trend in the late 20th century.  But now newer and much broader evidence has emerged that looks like it will break that scandal wide open.  Pundits have already named it "Climategate." The Great British Climate Fraud.  Despite efforts in liberal quarters to play the story down as a criminal issue of no great consequence, the blogosophere almost instantly recognized it as political dynamite:  perhaps even the final nail in the coffin of Al Gore's increasingly expensive theory that the world is rapidly overheating due to Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW).  Why?  Because the Climate Research Unit in the windswept fenlands of Eastern England — together with its sister unit in the West of England, the Hadley Centre in Exeter, Devon — is one of the primary information sources used by the UN's International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). "Climate Gate" Development:  CEI Files Notice of Intent to Sue NASA.  Today [11/24/2009], on behalf of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, I filed three Notices of Intent to File Suit against NASA and its Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), for those bodies' refusal — for nearly three years — to provide documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act.  The information sought is directly relevant to the exploding "ClimateGate" scandal revealing document destruction, coordinated efforts in the U.S. and UK to avoid complying with both countries' freedom of information laws, and apparent and widespread intent to defraud at the highest levels of international climate science bodies. Obama's Science Czar John Holdren involved in unwinding "Climategate" scandal.  Obama Science Czar John Holdren is directly involved in CRU's unfolding Climategate scandal.  In fact, according to files released by a CEU hacker or whistleblower, Holdren is involved in what Canada Free Press columnist Canadian climatologist Dr. Tim Ball terms "a truculent and nasty manner that provides a brief demonstration of his lack of understanding, commitment on faith and willingness to ridicule and bully people". Green totalitarianism.  All the manipulation, distortion and suppression revealed by these emails took place because it would seem these scientists knew their belief was not only correct but unchallengeable; and so when faced with evidence that showed it was false, they tried every which way to make the data fit the prior agenda.  And those who questioned that agenda themselves had to be airbrushed out of the record, because to question it was simply impossible.  Only AGW zealots get to decide, apparently, what science is.  Truth is what fits their ideological agenda.  Anything else is to be expunged. 'Climategate' Heats Up.  A press release from filmmaker and marine biologist, Randy Olson, suggests that the media may not be able to bury the brewing global warming collusion scandal. ... Olson, who is promoting his new movie, Sizzle: A Global Warming Comedy, reports, "They're calling it "Climategate" already.  The climate science world is ablaze with the issue.  The war between the scientists and the skeptics just got turned up several notches." Copenhagen will fail — and quite right too.  Astonishingly, what appears, at least at first blush, to have emerged is that (a) the scientists have been manipulating the raw temperature figures to show a relentlessly rising global warming trend; (b) they have consistently refused outsiders access to the raw data; (c) the scientists have been trying to avoid freedom of information requests; and (d) they have been discussing ways to prevent papers by dissenting scientists being published in learned journals. Global Warming Fraud:  Somebody Needs to Go to Jail.  The revelations that scientists at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) doctored the data supporting the global warming claims of the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) means that EVERYTHING attributed to or based upon "global warming" is invalid. E-Mails Of Climate Researchers Buttress Case Of Warming Fraud.  Hacked e-mails from Britain's Climate Research Unit are only the latest evidence of climate fraud.  Just ask NASA's James Hansen about the faking of climate data or EPA employees about the suppression of climate fact.  For years, noted scientists and other global warming skeptics have been accused of being on the take, their research tainted and funded by grants from Big Oil and other fossil-fuel interests.  Now, it turns out, it's the warm-mongers who are fudging the numbers and concealing the inconvenient truth. Settled Science?  [Scroll down]  It is hard to see how this is anything less than a definitive refutation of the popular press's contention that global warmism is settled science — a contention that both the Times and the Post repeat in their articles on the revelations:  "The evidence pointing to a growing human contribution to global warming is so widely accepted that the hacked material is unlikely to erode the overall argument," the Times claims. GOP Senator Tells Climate Change Researchers to Retain Controversial E-Mails.  Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe has sent letters to several climate change scientists and to the inspectors general of various federal agencies notifying them to retain breached documents and e-mails that he says prove researchers are manipulating data to make the case for global warming. Al Gore "laying low" in Canada.  Where does Al Gore stand on Climategate?  He doesn't stand up in debate but hunkers down in hiding, holed up in Canada. ... Gore, in his Canadian hide-y-hole, obviously hopes that Climategate will have blown over by the time he returns to his Tennessee mansion, which, as one Canadian blogger points out "produces more pollution a month than a normal household in one year." Climate of Fraud.  The University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit's e-mail account was hacked earlier this month, exposing communications among CRU faculty members and researchers that reveal their willingness to distort climate-change data.  Do those e-mails mark a sea-change moment in the global-warming debate? CRU's Source Code:  Climategate Uncovered.  As the evidence of fraud at the University of East Anglia's prestigious Climactic Research Unit (CRU) continues to mount, those who've been caught green-handed continue to parry their due opprobrium and comeuppance, thanks primarily to a dead-silent mainstream media.  But should the hubris and duplicity evident in the e-mails of those whose millennial temperature charts literally fuel the warming alarmism movement somehow fail to convince the world of the scam that's been perpetrated, certainly these revelations of the fraud cooked into the computer programs that create such charts will. Climate Fraud and the Environmental Agenda.  The debate on environmentalism — specifically as regards the environmental movement itself — has been marked by confusion since the beginning.  Criticism of environmentalist thinking tends to confuse means with goals.  Environmentalist reforms, however they are presented and whatever they may involve, are simply means of pushing forward the Green agenda.  As for the goals inherent in that agenda... they are something else entirely. Greens to be Held to Account?  Yes, the emails are genuine.  [Phil] Jones admitted to that, as I proved in my last article on the hacking.  And yes, this should be a major blow to the greenie cause.  That is why we must keep up the pressure.  Not only should Jones be sacked, but he should be forced to account for every penny of his ill-gained funding, which was obtained by fraudulent claims.  Already, some are looking at the possibility of charges being brought for fraud. Why You Should Be Hot and Bothered About 'Climate-gate'.  Science depends on good quality of data.  It also relies on replication and sharing data.  But the last couple of days have uncovered some shocking revelations.  Computer hackers have obtained 160 megabytes of e-mails from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in England.  These e-mails, which have now been confirmed as real, involved many researchers across the globe with ideologically similar advocates around the world.  They were brazenly discussing the destruction and hiding of data that did not support global warming claims. ACORNing the Climate Change Movement.  The climate change movement may have been caught in its first ACORN moment, with the publication of e-mails suggesting global warming data has been manipulated or suppressed.  The University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit's (CRU) e-mail system was hacked, and it now appears that fraud as a political strategy may not be limited to ACORN's community organizing. Climategate:  MSM Writers Try to Ignore Scandal in Global Waming Stories.  An hilariously bizarre situation is happening in the wake of the growing Climategate scandal.  Many of the mainstream media stories about global warming are simply pretending it doesn't exist.  Perhaps they feel that by ignoring Climategate entirely that it will just go away.  Unfortunately for them, the readers of these global warming stories keep bringing up the inconvenient truth of Climategate by mentioning the scandal in the comments section over and over and over again. Scientist in climate change 'cover-up' storm told to quit.  The scientist at the heart of the climate change scandal was under growing pressure to quit last night.  George Monbiot, a leading environmentalist, said Phil Jones should resign from the Climatic Research Unit over leaked emails that appear to show researchers suppressed scientific data.  More emails came to light yesterday [11/24/2009], including one in which an American climatologist admitted it was a travesty that scientists could not explain a lack of global warming in recent years. The CRU Scandal.  [Scroll down]  But what seems incontrovertible at this point is that the global-warming industry (and it is an industry) is suffused to its core with groupthink and bad faith.  For many of us, this is not shocking news.  But it is shocking evidence.  Proving bad faith and groupthink is very hard to do.  But now we have the internal dialog of those afflicted made public (I hope some intrepid reporters are asking other climate institutions whether they are no erasing their files for fear of being similarly exposed).  It is clear that the scientists at the CRU were more interested in punishing dissenters and constructing a p.r. campaign than they were in actual science. CNN: Out of Context?  CNN.com finally posted an article about the most recent global warming scandal:  the emails that show global warming "experts" collaborating to falsify information and keep dissenting views from the public.  The emails surfaced days ago, but this is the first article CNN has posted online regarding the scandal.  Apparently, CNN has still not seen fit to assign its own reporters to the story; the article was carried from Wired Science.  And rather than report the straight facts, the article focuses mainly on the researchers' complaint:  that emails were taken "out of context." Global Warming Cover Up?  There will be plenty of accusations on both sides going forward as to whether or not the e-mails show that experts who believe in global warming actually have the scientific evidence to back up their claims but it does appear that global warming advocates don't have as much scientific proof as they previously claimed and that they aren't in total agreement. Climate Smokescreen At The New York Times.  When holier-than-thou New York Times reporter Andrew Revkin decided not to publish e-mails that expose climate scientists as frauds because they were obtained illegally, Times watchers (including this one) rightly cried "Hypocrisy!"  One recent and one distant case of the newspaper rejecting Revkin's new standard of journalistic ethics leapt to mind.  In December 2005, the Times ran a front-page expose on the Bush administration's covert wiretapping program against presumed terrorists even after being warned that it could jeopardize national security.  And in 1971, the Times made history by publishing the Pentagon Papers about U.S. military involvement in Vietnam.  But a far better example of the paper's hypocrisy has escaped notice — until now. Climategate:  the scandal spreads, the plot thickens, the shame deepens...  Now it seems that the Kiwis may have been at it too — tinkering with raw data to make "Global Warming" look scarier than it really is.  The alleged villains this time are the climate scientists at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NiWA) — New Zealand's answer to Britain's Climate Research Unit.  And to judge by this news alert by the Climate Science Coalition of NZ, both institutions share a similarly laissez-faire attitude to scientific accuracy. Road To Hopenhagen.  [Scroll down]  Their hacked e-mails, what some have called the "Pentagon Papers" of global warming, have revealed the activities of those whom Lord Christopher Monckton, former science adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, calls "criminals," as well as "huckstering snake-oil salesmen and 'global warming' profiteers."  The CRU is where one of the world's four global-temperature data sets is compiled.  Scientists there have deliberately falsified and manipulated temperature data, denied outsiders access to raw data and conspired to suppress scientific papers by dissenting scientists. Climate czar rejects doctored data claims.  Obama administration climate czar Carol Browner on Wednesday [11/25/2009] rejected claims that e-mails stolen from a British university show that climate scientists trumped up global-warming numbers, saying she considers the science settled. Editor's note: Many of the articles above refer to "stolen" or "hacked" emails and documents, but I have seen no evidence of hacking or theft.  They could very well have been leaked by an employee at the CRU. Why 'climategate' won't stop greens.  If you're wondering how the robot-like march of the world's politicians towards Copenhagen can possibly continue in the face of the scientific scandal dubbed "climategate," it's because Big Government, Big Business and Big Green don't [care] about "the science."  They never have.  What "climategate" suggests is many of the world's leading climate scientists didn't either. 'You've Taken the Words Out of My Mouth'.  [Scroll down]  In one email, under the subject line "HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL," Phil Jones of East Anglia writes to Mann:  "I can't see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report.  Kevin and I will keep them out somehow — even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!" The false prophets of global warming deservedly feel a whole new kind of heat.  In recent months, leftist organizations have taken pratfalls too spectacular for even America's blinkered mainstream media to ignore.  On the national front, we have the decline and fall of ACORN.  And on the trans-national, social-engineering front, we have the reluctantly reported story of a brazen conspiracy among "scientists" to do whatever is necessary — up to and including falsifying data — to push the politically motivated cause of man-made "global warming." White House Involvement in Scandal Will Make It Harder for MSM to Ignore.  Yesterday Brian Williams delivered an NBC Nightly News report about President Obama attending the Copenhagen global warming summit.  Guess what hot topic was left untouched?  If you had guessed Climategate you would have been correct.  Not only Williams but also the other TV networks, with the exception of FOX News, have completely ignored what is considered to be the biggest scientific scandal in history. Global Frauding.  The CRU scandal has already ensnared Britain's leading climate "scientist" Phil Jones (whom one principled leftie says has only "a few days left in which to make an honourable exit") and his American counterpart Michael Mann (as in "Mann-made global warming").  Given that these two men and their respective institutions are the leading warm-mongers on the planet, and the guys who dominate the IPCC, Copenhagen et al, it would be most unlikely if the widespread data-raping were confined only to the United Kingdom and the United States. Trouble afoot for high priests.  The global warming scam is in trouble because neither the globe nor the thermometer will cooperate. ... How to Forge a Consensus.  [Scroll down]  The furor over these documents is not about tone, colloquialisms or even whether climatologists are nice people in private.  The real issue is what the messages say about the way the much-ballyhooed scientific consensus on global warming was arrived at in the first place, and how even now a single view is being enforced.  In short, the impression left by the correspondence among Messrs. Mann and Jones and others is that the climate-tracking game has been rigged from the start. Climategate e-mails sweep America.  Senator James Inhofe's Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works has written to all the relevant US Government agencies, acquainting them with the nature of the e-mails.  But the real car crash for Obama is on Capitol Hill where it is now confidently believed his Cap and Trade climate legislation is toast. Global Warmists Caught Red-Handed.  [Scroll down slowly]  Our friends in the editorial sanctum sanctorum of the Wall Street Journal pored over all the damning emails.  They found dissenting scientists (Global Warming skeptics, as they are called) being blacklisted and suppressed.  For instance, Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University, emailed likeminded Global Warmists advising them to isolate and ignore scientists and scientific journals that publish the views of the skeptics. Climaquiddick:  It's not the emails, it's the data.  Media Matters is desperately clinging to the notion that those hacked emails between "global warming" scientists don't show what they clearly do show:  that "global warming" was the Loch Ness monster of weather all along.  Let's overlook the embarrassing fact that the same scientists bullying us to divert trillions of dollars into their scam were too stupid and incompetent to properly protect their own database from hackery.  As more and more experts are saying:  it's not the emails, it's the data. Warmist denial won't work.  The warmists really have no argument when it comes to the CRU whistleblower leak.  The evidence in their own words, in the leaked emails that were being withheld from a Freedom of Information request is already deeply incriminating. Scientists Square Off In Heated ClimateGate Debate.  As NewsBusters reported Thursday, the international television news network Russia Today has been doing an outstanding job of reporting the growing ClimateGate scandal.  On Wednesday [11/25/2009], RT featured an absolute must-see debate between Piers Corbyn, a British weather forecaster and consultant who believes anthropogenic global warming is a dangerous scam, and Aleksey Korkorin, a Russian climatologist and contributor to the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. ClimateGate Scientists Cited in Report to White House and Congress.  Scientists involved in the growing ClimateGate scandal were cited in an October climate change report prepared for the White House and Congress.  Titled "Our Changing Planet," the 172-page document was created by The U.S. Global Change Research Program along with the Subcommittee on Global Change Research, and was submitted as a supplement to President Obama's fiscal 2010 budget. Climategate:  IPCC Email Scandal.  In late 2009, the credibility of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) took a serious hit when email exchanges between some of its senior authors and editors revealed deliberate efforts to falsify data and silence dissenting scientists.  The IPCC's reputation was already waning in the wake of scandals concerning Michael Mann's "hockey stick" temperature diagram and the role of government officials and environmental activists in its so-called "peer review" process.  The IPCC Email Scandal of November 2009 meant the IPCC could no longer claim to represent the "scientific consensus" on global warming. Climategate's Perry Mason Moment.  Since news of embarrassing, if not incriminating emails broke last Friday [11/20/2009], it has become clear that the CRU computer system was not "hacked" and the emails were not stolen.  In fact, the file containing the emails had been assembled by CRU staff in preparation for compliance with a Freedom of Information request.  The file was then stored in a publicly accessible portion of the CRU computer network — making it just a matter of time before someone discovered it. When Geophysical Research Letters also showed signs of wandering off the "consensus" reservation, Dr Tom Wigley ("one of the world's foremost experts on climate change") suggested they get the goods on its editor, Jim Saiers, and go to his bosses at the American Geophysical Union to "get him ousted".  When another pair of troublesome dissenters emerge, Dr Jones assured Dr Mann, "I can't see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report.  Kevin and I will keep them out somehow — even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!"  Which in essence is what they did. Man Made Global Warming May Be What Some Scientists Chose to be True.  As with Politics and politicians; as with Theology and theologians; so with Science and scientists.  When looking for Truth, our greatest concern should not be the analysis of the conclusions being reported.  It should be an analysis of the character of those doing the reporting. No Mention of ClimateGate: WaPo's Eilperin Blames Global Warming Skepticism Increase on 'Political Polarization'.  The global warming alarmists are beginning to lose the PR battle, at least that is what a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll is indicating.  But this has the usual purveyors of climate change doom-and-gloom trying to rationalize the shift in public opinion.  The Washington Post's Juliet Eilperin, who regularly has her objectivity called into question on the issue of anthropogenic global warming, attributed this to nothing more than political polarization. Rigging a Climate 'Consensus'.  The climatologists at the center of the leaked email and document scandal have taken the line that it is all much ado about nothing.  Yes, the wording of their messages was unfortunate, but they insist this in no way undermines the underlying science.  They're ignoring the damage they've done to public confidence in the arbiters of climate science. Hiding evidence of global cooling.  Scientific progress depends on accurate and complete data.  It also relies on replication.  The past couple of days have uncovered some shocking revelations about the baloney practices that pass as sound science about climate change. The global-cooling cover-up.  The climate-gate revelations have exposed an unprecedented coordinated attempt by academics to distort research for political ends.  Anyone interested in accurate science should be appalled at the manipulation of data "to hide the decline [in temperature]" and deletion of e-mail exchanges and data so as not to reveal information that would support global-warming skeptics.  These hacks are not just guilty of bad science.  In the United Kingdom, deleting e-mail messages to prevent their disclosure from a Freedom of Information Act request is a crime. The end of cap-and-trade.  It may not be the biggest scandal since Watergate.  But what appeared to be a clear path to massive cap-and-trade legislation just a few months ago now resembles a Jenga tower, and the scandal looks like the tile that will bring the whole thing down. Worshipping at the church of climate 'science'.  Those who question the consensus premise of the IPCC provide independent research on climate change and are skeptical of climate predictions based on computer models are tagged as "deniers" — similar to the despicable folks who deny the Holocaust — by the high priests of the environment movement and their legions of "green" enthusiasts.  Science without a healthy dose of skepticism and which isn't open to hard questioning becomes ideology.  An ideology is a closed system that distorts or excludes empirical data to serve its dogma. Hot air under radar.  It should be known as "climategate" and should be a front-page story in every newspaper worth the name and the lead item on television and radio news throughout the world.  Instead it has generally been ignored and often deliberately covered up. Climate change data dumped.  Scientists at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.  It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.  The UEA's Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation. Global Warming Fraud and the Future of Science.  The East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) revelations come as no real surprise to anyone who has closely followed the global-warming saga.  The Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) thesis, to give it its semi-official name, is no stranger to fraud.  It would be no real exaggeration to state that it was fertilized with fraud, marinated in fraud, stewed in fraud, and at last served up to the world as prime grade-A fraud with nice side orders of fakery and disingenuousness. ClimateGate's Michael Mann Being Investigated By Penn State.  As a result of the growing ClimateGate scandal, Penn State University is investigating Michael Mann, its high-profile professor on the sending and receiving end of controversial e-mail messages recently obtained from a British Climate Research Unit.  Mann, as one of the originators of the infamous Hockey Stick graph, is the climatologist at the very heart of the global warming myth. Climate change:  this is the worst scientific scandal of our generation.  The reason why even the Guardian's George Monbiot has expressed total shock and dismay at the picture revealed by the documents is that their authors are not just any old bunch of academics.  Their importance cannot be overestimated, What we are looking at here is the small group of scientists who have for years been more influential in driving the worldwide alarm over global warming than any others, not least through the role they play at the heart of the UN's ntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Climategate:  The BBC is still pretending not to notice.  Most believers in AGW (who I accept include the majority of scientists in this field) acknowledge the significance of the Climategate scandal, breaking as it has on the eve of the Copenhagen summit.  But the BBC is holding firm, providing far less than the bare minimum of coverage that licence payers have a right to expect. Note to the global-warming crowd:  Your agenda is showing.  [Michael] Crichton, who died last year, was the best-selling author of numerous science-based novels including "State of Fear," which told of a global conspiracy by "climate-change" proponents to manipulate scientific data for the purpose of scaring the world into doing "the right thing."  Now, of course, thanks to an anonymous hacker, hundreds of suspicious e-mails and documents from global-warming scientists have been released to the public suggesting that (surprise!) "climatechange" proponents have been manipulating scientific data for the purpose of scaring the world into doing "the right thing." Climategate:  The Travails of a Global Warming Hobbyist.  There are several blatantly obvious conclusions to be drawn here.  First, any group receiving public money for research must make their data available to all.  Even to guys with laptops on Saturday afternoons.  Second, it seems that peer review means next to nothing.  In the whole AGW thing, collaborating researchers apparently became co-conspirators. The Latest on Climategate:  University Will Release CRU Data.  London's Sunday Telegraph reports that the University of East Anglia has decided that its Climatic Research Unit (CRU) must open all its data files to public inspection as soon as possible.  It is not known how much of the raw temperature data have been destroyed.  The university's decision sweeps aside years of obstruction, obfuscation, and prevarication by the CRU's director, Professor Phil Jones. Climategate:  Time to postpone Copenhagen.  No matter what our climate czar may insist, climate science and Copenhagen are now under a giant cloud. ... The relationship between politicians and scientists today is not entirely unlike the relationship between scientists and the clergy during the days of Galileo. Homogenized, sterilized and pasteurized.  The main objective criticism of the carbon-based warming model is that it is not proved.  That's different from saying it's not true.  It may or may not be true.  However, until it is conclusively shown to be true and the results can be reproduced, it would be unwise public policy to embark on a trillion dollar amelioration program, with far-reaching economic, social and environmental effects. Climategate:  Where Are We?  All of the spin and hand-waving distracts from the three main elements of the Climategate scandal:  [#1.] The data were manipulated to hide a decline in recent temperatures, meaning that we cannot be sure that the paleoclimatological record shows that the recent warming was in any way unusual. ... [#2.] There was a concerted effort to subvert the peer-review process of journals that might publish "skeptical" articles (and thereby undermine the "consensus" argument).  [#3.] There was an organized attempt to circumvent or obstruct the legal requirements of the UK's Freedom of Information Act 2000, which appears on its face to rise to the level of criminality. The Green Mask Is Being Peeled Away.  Now that we are learning prominent leaders of the global warming movement destroyed the data they claim to have used to construct their climate models, and only the most rabid environmental fraud deniers still cling to the authenticity of their "science", a serious moment of truth is fast approaching.  That moment is Copenhagen, which has always been about much more than so called "man-made global warming".  Copenhagen has always been about striking a "Global New Deal". Is 'Global Warming' the Greenie Weenies' WMDs?  First came a fairly steady drip of news that the earth may, in fact, be experiencing a cooling pattern.  This past summer, Chicago never once saw a day above 90 degrees.  Other stories made skeptics scratch their heads and wonder what was really going on.  Then the leaked e-mails surfaced, in which global warming "scientists," including one lauded by Al Gore, are caught manipulating the facts. Climategate:  Why it matters.  Reading the Climategate archive is a bit like discovering that Professional Wrestling is rigged.  You mean, it is?  Really?  The archive — a carefully curated 160MB collection of source code, emails and other documents from the internal network of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia — provides grim confirmation for critics of climate science.  But it also raises far more troubling questions. The Scientists Involved in Deliberately Deceiving the World on Climate.  Political exploitation will delay condemnation.  Business and political opportunities created by CRU and IPCC, both heavily funded by government, will not yield easily.  I spoke with five farm groups in Alberta recently and at one a company selling carbon credits gave a presentation.  The person involved said he didn't care about or even want to discuss the science.  He saw a business opportunity. More on Climategate.  In my previous post on Climategate I blithely said that nothing in the climate science email dump surprised me much.  Having waded more deeply over the weekend I take that back.  The closed-mindedness of these supposed men of science, their willingness to go to any lengths to defend a preconceived message, is surprising even to me.  The stink of intellectual corruption is overpowering. Rather Do Nothing.  This CRU story is also a journalistic scandal as well.  That front is intensifying.  The Daily Mail reports that the BBC had some of these e-mails a month ago and did ... nothing. CRU emails were leaked before they were hacked.  The BBC received copies of some of the CRU emails more than a month ago, but did nothing about them, sitting on explosive evidence of fraud. Global warming consensus:  garbage in, garbage out.  The CRU has been a major source of data on global temperatures, relied on by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  But the e-mails suggest that CRU scientists have been suppressing and misstating data and working to prevent the publication of conflicting views in peer-reviewed science periodicals. Groupthink and the global warming industry.  In a long string of embarrassing e-mail exchanges, CRU scientists discuss with friendly outside colleagues, including Penn State University's Michael Mann, how to manipulate the data they want to show the world, and how to hide the often flawed data they don't.  In one exchange, they discuss the "trick" of how to "hide the decline" in global temperatures since the 1960s.  Again and again, the researchers don't object to just inconvenient truths but also inconvenient truth-tellers. Professor at centre of climate change email row stands down temporarily.  Professor Phil Jones, the director of a research unit at the centre of a row over climate change data, has said he will stand down from the post while an independent review takes place. White House Dismisses 'Climategate' Because 'Most People' Believe in Global Warming.  As President Barack Obama prepares to travel to a global climate summit next week in Copenhagen, the White House is dismissing the "climategate" controversy that has arisen over the leak of email communications between top climate-change scientists that some skeptics say cast doubt on the legitimacy of the science behind the theory that human activity is causing global warming. When scientists behave like bullies.  This just in from the Times of London: After the leak of highly embarrassing e-mail messages from the University of East Anglia's influential Climatic Research Unit, CRU has been forced to admit that it dumped "the original raw" climate data used to bolster the case for human-caused global warming, while retaining only the "value-added" — read: massaged — data. Obama and the CRUddites of Britain.  The CRU crew of liars and scientific frauds in the U.K. have been driving the climate fraud campaign for years.  They shaped the corrupt and ridiculous IPCC U.N. report, designed to empower the Green corruptocracy as the new international ruling class.  Now they have been finally and devastatingly exposed to the world... The CRU's Criminal Conspiracy.  Britain's Climate Research Unit now says it will release all its data.  Does that include the data that have been shredded, deleted and denied publication? Obama Science Adviser Urges Climate Action Amid Uproar.  President Barack Obama's top science adviser urged lawmakers to act to curb emissions of greenhouse gases, despite the uproar over emails in which some prominent climate scientists appeared to advocate squelching the views of researchers skeptical that human activity is driving a dangerous rise in global temperatures. "to conduct hearings on a possible conspiracy between some of the world's most prominent climatologists to, among other things, manipulate data on so-called global warming."  Sen. Boxer is cheerleader numero uno for man-made global warming guru Al Gore, and no one knows that better than Sen. Inhofe. Universities take action on Climategate.  The Obama administration might think Climategate is a nonevent, but on Monday, Pennsylvania State University announced it was launching an investigation into the academic conduct of Michael Mann, director of the school's Earth System Science Center.  Yesterday [12/1/2009], it was announced that Phil Jones, director of the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia, would step aside while his university conducts an investigation. Seeing No Evil On Climate-Gate.  The shameless denial with which major newspapers and networks have treated "Climategate" layers even more scandal on top of the original one: Mainstream media now co-conspirators with scientific hacks and big government.  The evolution of America's dominant media from guardians of our freedoms to enablers of government growth has been a decades-long story, their biases copiously chronicled.  But their response to the scientific scandal of the century, since it broke a week and a half ago, bids to become known as history's great unmasking of these supposedly independent journalists. Climategate:  it's all unravelling now.  So many new developments:  which story do we pick?  Maybe best to summarise, instead.  After all, it's not like you're going to find much of this reported in the MSM. Climatologist Leaves Post in Inquiry Over E-Mail Leaks.  The head of the British research unit at the center of a controversy over the disclosure of thousands of e-mail messages among climate-change scientists has stepped down pending the outcome of an investigation. Peer Pressure.  The thing to understand about the scandal surrounding the e-mails leaked from Britain's Climatic Research Unit (CRU) is that it is actually three scandals.  There is a scientific scandal, in which the leading lights of the climate-research cabal conspired to fudge data and silence skeptics.  There is a media scandal, in which reporters and editors on the "climate beat" at the world's most prominent news organizations acted as stenographers for the cabal and ignored the scandal when it broke.  And there is a political scandal, in which officeholders here and abroad used the bunk science as a pretext for expanding their control of (and take from) the world's energy markets. Climate Change Rocked.  Professor Ian Plimer condemned the climate change lobby as "climate comrades" keeping the "gravy train" going.  In a controversial talk just days before the start of a climate summit attended by world leaders in Copenhagen, Prof Plimer said Governments were treating the public like "fools" and using climate change to increase taxes.  He said carbon dioxide has had no impact on temperature and that recent warming was part of the natural cycle of climate stretching over billions of years. Comedy Central Scoops Network News on Climate-Gate Scandal.  ABC didn't cover it.  CBS didn't either.  And NBC apparently wouldn't go near it.  The network news broadcasts have ignored a growing scandal over evidence of a potential climate cover-up — and now they've even been scooped by the fake news at Comedy Central. East Anglia CRU:  welcome to the Piltdown Institute of Mann-made Global Warming.  It looks as if the Phil Jones University will have to be renamed, at least temporarily, since Phil himself is taking a short sabbatical while the decorators move in to do some heavy whitewashing.  While we all have every confidence he will soon be back in charge of the CRU (Creative Research Unit), devising ever more inventive "tricks" to "hide the decline", I suggest the interim title of The Piltdown Institute of Mann-made Global Warming. Climategate:  Science Is Dying.  Surely there must have been serious men and women in the hard sciences who at some point worried that their colleagues in the global warming movement were putting at risk the credibility of everyone in science.  The nature of that risk has been twofold:  First, that the claims of the climate scientists might buckle beneath the weight of their breathtaking complexity.  Second, that the crudeness of modern politics, once in motion, would trample the traditions and culture of science to achieve its own policy goals.  With the scandal at the East Anglia Climate Research Unit, both have happened at once. ClimateGate Held Hostage:  Day 13.  As the MRC's Business & Media Institute reported on Wednesday, in the twelve days since emails were released showing climate scientists manipulating global warming data, many in the media have been stunningly silent. How Much Longer Before Climategate Explodes?  The Lame Stream Media (LSM) are doing their best to ignore Climategate, while they desperately try to come up with some consensus on how to spin it.  Well guess what bozos, you can't spin this one, it's too big.  You keep standing in its way, and it'll squash you like a steam-roller going over a marshmallow.  This isn't just the biggest story of the 21st century.  This is the biggest fraud in world history. E-mails show global warming is a lie.  Global warming is a lie.  Leaked e-mails from researchers around the world show a conspiracy to — as one professor put it — "hide the decline" in temperatures.  That is right.  Global warming "scientists" have known for years that temperatures are dropping.  But they covered it up. Global warming's new clothes.  Some are unhappy that the Copenhagen conference on climate change is going forward.  I think that it is entirely appropriate in light of the revelations coming out of CRU/IPCC.  After all, Copenhagen was where Danish author Hans Christian Andersen published The Emperor's New Clothes in 1837. Who's who on climate fraud.  In 1912, a respected paleontologist at the British Museum confirmed that bones found in a Piltdown quarry came from the "missing link" between apes and humans.  Forty years later, the so-called Piltdown Man was proved to be a hoax.  Thanks to purloined e-mails from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU), global warming is turning out to be the 21st-century equivalent of Piltdown Man. UN 'to probe alleged climate change cover-up'.  A top UN panel is to probe claims that British scientists sought to suppress data backing climate change sceptics' views, its head said Friday [12/4/2009] ahead of the landmark Copenhagen summit. UN panel promises to investigate leaked 'climategate' e-mails.  The United Nations panel on climate change has promised to investigate claims that scientists at a British university deliberately manipulated data to support the theory of man-made global warming.  Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), said that the allegations raised by leaked e-mails in the so-called "climategate" controversy were too serious to ignore. The 'science' of global warming.  Like the proverbial sausage factory, you never want to look too closely at how the science gets settled.  The other day, a whole bunch of electronic documents most probably leaked by a disaffected insider from the prestigious Climatic Research Unit at Britain's University of East Anglia were posted online. 'Science Is Dying':  What Media Are Really Missing About ClimateGate.  This isn't just about global warming, cap and trade, or the environment.  What these e-mail messages demonstrate is a concerted effort by a limited number of highly-influential scientists to control the dissemination of information for political reasons.  If this is allowed to go unchecked, not only does science lose all credibility in the future, but also raises questions about what other established truths were politically fabricated. Global-warming theology.  Belief in global warming had long had a tinge of theology about it, a form of cultism that adherents and defenders elevated to a holy crusade.  Any who questioned the orthodoxy were branded as heretics.  Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that climatechange skepticism is "treason" and exhorted that "we need to start treating [skeptics] as traitors."  In 2007, the Weather Channel's Heidi Cullen said that meteorologists who were skeptical of man-made global warming should be decertified.  The e-mails from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit reveal systematic attempts by high priests of this religion to silence scientists who disputed their rigged findings. Gore cancels climate conference event.  "We have had a clear-cut agreement, and it is unusual with great disappointment that we have to announce that Al Gore cancels.  We had a huge expectation for the event. ... We do not yet know the detailed reasons for the cancellation," said Lisbeth Knudsen, CEO of Berlingske Media, in a statement posted by the company. The Inconvenient Truth.  "Climate campaigner Al Gore has canceled a lecture he was supposed to deliver in Copenhagen," the Associated Press reports... This has prompted speculation by the former vice president's detractors that he is keeping his head down in the wake of the release of the East Anglia emails showing evidence of scientific misconduct by climate researchers. ClimateGate:  So, where's the 'Oh, Snap!' Email?  One thing about "ClimateGate" nagging at the back of my mind is the absence of any discussion by ringleader Phil Jones (or others) of the remarkable, shocking discovery that Jones now claims he had that his precedessor destroyed the raw data in the 1980s.  That is the data that scientists have for years been seeking from Jones under the UK's freedom of information law. A reason to be skeptical.  You may suppose that those with a resilient faith in end-of-days global warming would be more distraught than anyone over these actions.  You'd be wrong.  In the wake of the scandal, we are told there is nothing to see.  The administration, the United Nations, most of the left-wing punditry and political establishment have shrugged it off.  What else can they do? Rep. Issa:  Obama's refusal to investigate 'Climategate' emails is 'unconscionable'.  The U.N.'s decision this week to investigate whether some of its climate change research had been manipulated constitutes a "direct rebuke" of the Obama administration, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said Friday[12/4/2009].  The White House's unwillingness to open a similar inquiry could now only be characterized as "a sad abdication of their responsibility to ensure that U.S. policies are not driven by corrupted science and data," the congressman added. Media Will Ignore Climategate Until They Hear "I Was Wrong".  Consider the case of Roger Revelle, the "grandfather of global warming."  He didn't say "I was wrong" during all the years he was heading up the Scripps Institute of Oceanography or the Center for Population Studies at Harvard.  He waited until he was in a retirement job back at UC San Diego — a mere professor without any research or grant monies coming in — to admit he was wrong about CO2 being an important greenhouse gas.  But to his credit, he did say it in his final years. Climategate Will Now Hit the EPA.  The EPA — perhaps at the urging of others in the Obama administration — has proposed to regulate GHG emissions on the basis of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports ... and reports primarily based on the IPCC reports.  This is highly unusual for the EPA.  I cannot think of any instance where the EPA depended so heavily on non-EPA synthesis reports to justify proposed regulatory action in their almost 39 years of existence.  As a result of this EPA decision, the EPA's fortunes in regard to regulating GHGs are directly tied to the fate of the IPCC reports. Competitive Enterprise Institute Petitions EPA to Suspend Proposed CO2 Regs.  In light of the Climategate fraud scandal, the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) on Wednesday [12/2/2009] filed a petition asking the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to suspend its plans to regulate greenhouse gas emissions using the Clean Air Act, pending a thorough investigation of and public comment on the newly released information. Dubious science drives climate fears.  By now, the attentive public everywhere has learned about the scam called Climategate despite the mainstream media's reluctance to prominently report it.  This is about the manipulating of science, fudging of data, excluding the work of skeptical scientists and preventing peer-reviewed journals to publish dissenting views as well as trashing historical temperature records and e-mail evidence from the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit in the United Kingdom. BBC Exposes 'Fudge Factor' in ClimateGate Global Warming Computer Programming Code.  A segment on the Dec. 3 broadcast of BBC's "Newsnight," showed the implications of the story behind the so-called "ClimateGate" scandal are more than just e-mails concealing data, but an incompetence analyzing the data by way of faulty computer code.  John Graham-Cumming, a British programmer known for the open source "POPFile email filtering program" explained how the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU) had wholesale problems with its computer programming analyzing climate change data, with billion, if not even trillions of dollars, on the line. Britain's government meteorlogical office to review temp record.  In a process estimated to take years, Britain's Met Office is opening up all its climate records and reevaluating them in light of the East Anglia CRU disclosures. Climategate:  the UN investigation will be a whitewash.  Forgive my scepticism over this, but the United Nations happens to be one of the most inefficient, corruption-riddled, unaccountable and untransparent entities on the face of the earth.  It is hard to see how the UN is going to conduct this kind of inquiry with a straight face, let alone an ounce of credibility. NBC Nightly News Takes Up ClimateGate, But Frets It Could 'Delay Taking Action'.  Two weeks after the scandal broke, NBC Nightly News on Friday night [12/4/2009] became the first broadcast network morning or evening news program to inform viewers about "ClimateGate," but only in the most cursory manner as correspondent Anne Thompson, a long-time ally of the environmental left, despaired the e-mails may end up "giving politicians from coal and oil-producing states another reason to delay taking action to reduce emissions.  The government's leading scientist told Congress there is no time to lose." Scientists Behaving Badly.  As in the furor over Dan Rather's fabricated documents about George W. Bush's National Guard service back in 2004, bloggers have been swarming over the material and highlighting the bad faith, bad science, and possibly even criminal behavior (deleting material requested under Britain's Freedom of Information Act and perhaps tax evasion) of a small group of highly influential climate scientists.  As with Rathergate, diehard climate campaigners are repairing to the "fake but accurate" defense — what these scientists did may be unethical or deeply biased, they say, but the science is settled, don't you know, so move along, nothing to see here. NASA-Gate.  For two years, our space agency has refused Freedom of Information requests on why it has repeatedly corrected its climate figures.  A leading researcher threatens to sue to find more inconvenient truths.  What's become known as "Climate-Gate" may be about to explode on this side of the pond as well. Do you suppose NASA has been cookin' the books? Understanding Climategate's Hidden Decline.  As the mainstream media move from abject denial to dismissive whitewashing, CRU co-conspirators move to Copenhagen for tomorrow's UN climate meeting, intent on changing the world as we know it based primarily on their now exposed trickery.  Add yesterday's [12/5/2009] announcement of a UN investigation into the matter, which will no doubt be no less corrupt than those being investigated, and public awareness of how and why that trick was performed is now more vital than ever. Were Russian security services behind the leak of 'Climategate' emails?  Suspicions were growing last night [12/5/2009] that Russian security services were behind the leaking of the notorious British 'Climategate' emails which threaten to undermine tomorrow's Copenhagen global warming summit.  An investigation by The Mail on Sunday has discovered that the explosive hacked emails from the University of East Anglia were leaked via a small web server in the formerly closed city of Tomsk in Siberia. State climatologist John Christy mentioned in leaked 'Climategate' e-mails.  How do global warming proponents handle a problem like Huntsville climatologist and global warming skeptic Dr. John Christy?  Recently leaked e-mails show that question has bedeviled some of the world's leading climate scientists to a point they may have destroyed their own credibility. Climategate reveals 'the most influential tree in the world'.  Right at the heart of the sound and fury of "Climategate" — the emails leaked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) in East Anglia — is one story of scientific chicanery, overlooked by the media, whose implications dwarf all the rest.  If all those thousands of emails and other documents were leaked by an angry whistle-blower, as now seems likely, it was this story more than any other that he or she wanted the world to see. The Supporting Cast — Thought Police Anyone?  George Monbiot of the Guardian (UK) was among the first mainstream media to express concern.  "I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I'm dismayed and deeply shaken by them."  He was reacting to corruption on an unprecedented scale in exposed files from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia.  Typically, he was only concerned about being fooled.  To his further shame he is now in denial of the extent of the deception. The climate turns colder for global warming.  Perhaps the most shocking thing about the scientific scandal at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit is how much of the global warming belief structure was based on the outfit's research.  Once it was revealed that scientists at the school had colluded with their peers around the world to cook results and silence skeptics, the whole international climate complex came unraveled like an old cotton sweater. Was Russian secret service behind leak of climate-change emails?  The leaked emails, which claimed to provide evidence that the unit's head, Professor Phil Jones, colluded with colleagues to manipulate data and hide "unhelpful" research from critics of climate change science, were originally posted on a server in the Siberian city of Tomsk, at a firm called Tomcity, an internet security business. Fast Facts About Climategate.  On the night of November 19, a compressed file containing 1,073 emails and almost 3,600 other files mysteriously appeared on a download site in Siberia.  These emails and files had somehow been taken from the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU) in the UK.  This became known as Climategate.  The CRU and its director, Dr. Phil Jones, are important because the CRU is a central point for data collection, storage, and analysis of climate data. Obama's Science Adviser Confirms the Scandal — Unintentionally.  [Scroll down]  I remember when Copenhagen Diagnosis came out because nearly every major paper ran a story on it.  Global warming is happening even faster than predicted, the impacts are even worse than feared, and that sort of thing.  I also remembered that the authors of Copenhagen Diagnosis included many of the usual conmen who are at the center of the alarmist scare.  So I asked my CEI colleague Julie Walsh to compare the list of authors of Copenhagen Diagnosis with the scientists involved in Climategate.  I'm sure it will come as a shock that the two groups largely overlap. Defenseless Enviro-Thugs Go on Offense.  Instead of being humbled by the scandal, [Rajendra] Pachauri is attacking those who committed "illegal acts" in "stealing" e-mails documenting the climate fraud.  The alarmists tell us that the incriminating e-mails do nothing to discredit global warming science.  Well, if that is true, why did these top-gun environmentalists believe it necessary to cheat and lie?  If the science is so clear, why did they have to cherry-pick their data and rig the evidence?  Why did they have to "hide the decline" of the "real temps"?  Why did someone destroy the underlying temperature records that could either support or undermine their catastrophic conclusions?  Is this the way people of good faith behave? Four Colossal Holes in the Theory of Man-Made Global Warming.  Repeating the words "scientific consensus" over and over and telling sad stories about polar bears does not qualify as "science."  So, why is it that the people who insist that Man-made global warming is based on science, not politics, always get shaky and defensive when people want to actually talk about the reasoning behind it? We've Been Had.  Last year, my column "Global Warming Rope-A-Dope" (12/24/08) started out:  "Americans have been rope-a-doped into believing that global warming is going to destroy the planet.  Scientists who have been skeptical about manmade global warming have been called traitors or handmaidens of big oil."  New evidence proves that climatologists and environmental policy advocates have not only fed us lies, engaged in scientific and academic fraud but committed criminal acts as well. Climategate gaining traction — even in New Jersey.  The layer of ice that has formed in the main-stream media over the Climategate story is finally cracking.  The largest newspaper in perhaps the bluest of states, New Jersey, has run on its front page a Politico column titled "Climategate Distracts at Copenhagen."  The very liberal-leaning Newark Star-Ledger had put the deep freeze on Climategate for three weeks since the scandal broke, not breathing a word on the subject. ClimateGate Denial.  [Scroll down]  There also is nothing in the record to suggest a hacking.  Indeed, there is tremendous reason to suspect a whistleblower, tracing back the evolution of the demands for the information, the denials, and the information's path into the public realm.  Yet whichever it was changes nothing about the substance, all of which is found in documents subject to the UK's freedom of information act.  Which raises the second, ultra-whiny complaint sniffing about "private emails".  Actually, in looking into this I have yet to see one private email. When Science Becomes a Casualty of Politics.  Virtually every commentator's position on the issue — is this a scandal that exposes global warming as a scientific sham, or a faux scandal stoked by climate-change denial propaganda? — can be predicted by his or her politics.  You can look at the byline or the publication, and predict with near-100 percent accuracy what the article will say. Revenge of the Computer Nerds.  It is fascinating to watch the mainstream media in America duck (and/or make excuses for) the greatest scam in modern history:  the "science" behind man-made global warming.  Even more entertaining, and far more enlightening, is to follow the analyses by the experts in computer programming of the recently disclosed methods used by the Climate Research Unit (CRU) from the University of East Anglia. Anatomy of an Apocalypse.  One of the curious features of megalomania is an inability to appreciate the disruptive force of countermanding facts.  Were Al Gore a normal person — someone, I mean, who was not a slave to a mesmerizing ideology — the emails recently leaked from the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University would have shaken him to the core. Climategate's Harry_Read_Me.txt:  We All Really Should.  One of the most damning pieces of evidence in Climategate (so far) is a text file called HARRY_READ_ME.txt.  This file is supposedly written by Ian "Harry" Harris, a researcher at the University of East Anglia's CRU (Climatic Research Unit).  In it he details the trials and tribulations of being tasked with creating a new climate information database from previous publications and databases. Climategate:  Al Gore's Political Tin Ear.  Unless Gore is just speaking clumsily, and simply means the most recent email he read was ten-years-old, he's lying, misinformed, or both.  The last email actually dates to Nov. 12 2009.  The emails as a whole outline a campaign of disinformation and distraction that has lasted for 13 years.  Who is really indenial here? Climategate:  Why We Can't Trust the Data.  Obama's White House has declared the leaked British emails are "irrelevant."  Nor are any enquiries likely to impact what Lord Monckton describes as the world's "class politique."  Why?  Because too many reputations, too many research grants, too much power-grubbing, is riding on the anthropogenic global warming horse. ClimateGate Investigations Galore.  In one leaked email, Jones talks about using Penn State professor Michael Mann's "trick" of manipulating data within his hockey stick diagram.  "I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd [sic] from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline," wrote Jones on November 16, 1999.  (Mann is currently under investigation). When Will Climateers Give Up?  While climateers grandly assert that all skeptics are mentally unbalanced, and they try their best to dismiss claims of fraud, reality has a way of coming to the fore.  It is now about time those who cling to the Copenhagen Summit realised the ship is sinking. The Climate Change Propaganda Machine.  In the last several weeks we have learned several new facts about climate change research.  First, climate scientists' motives are biased.  Second, scientists actively discussed how to achieve political ends through their research.  Third, and more disturbingly, the public has learned of discarded data, attempts to keep opposing views silent, and total political adherence to an ideology. Climategate:  A Willful Ignorance.  It is only willful ignorance that would keep a reporter or anyone else from knowing what has been known for years, that CO2 increases over the past 300,000 years have never caused temperature rise.  Indeed, the rise of CO2 always follows in the wake of a temperature increase.  What is so terribly wrong about the Copenhagen conference and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change sponsoring it is that its own member scientists know that too. "Hope and Change" Through Lies.  Outrage over the suppressed data refuting "global warming" at the East Anglia Institute in England, now spans the world. ... Yet the global warming hucksters continue, as if the cooked and contrived data records and suppression of inconvenient facts debunking the notion of rising global temperatures were never uncovered.  These eco-alarmists are compelled to do so.  They have too much invested in this fraud, and it has been far too lucrative for them in the past to simply abandon it merely because it has been wholly discredited. The shocking lesson from the climate scandal.  With the outrageous news of deceit, fraud and suppression of opposing evidence by top climate change "scientists," many conservatives had expected to see the story unfold a little differently (with actual reporting and investigating).  Global warming, aka, climate change has been heralded as the preeminent story of our time.  As such, the exposing of scientific fraud in the ultimate "science" movement would have made screaming headline news in a sane world. What climategate really tells us.  Al Gore and the rest of the die-hard climate campaigners are huffing and puffing that nothing in the e-mails and documents that were hacked or leaked from the Climate Research Unit in England have any bearing on what we know about climate change or the political response we should make to deal with it.  The entire matter is settled science, don't you know — nothing to see here, move along.  That's rich, coming from the same people who told us for more than a decade that findings derived from the CRU's work constituted the "smoking gun" of human-caused climate change. Climate change emails row deepens as Russians admit they DID come from their Siberian server.  [Scroll down]  For example, some suggest that the 'medieval warm period', the 350-year era that started around 1000, when red wine grapes flourished in southern England and the Vikings tilled now-frozen farms in Greenland, was considerably warmer than even 1998.  Of course, this is inconvenient to climate change believers because there were no cars or factories pumping out greenhouse gases in 1000AD — yet the Earth still warmed. US deniers behind 'Climategate,' experts allege.  Business interests and US partisan politics are behind the furor over leaked emails that have whipped up a controversy at the Copenhagen climate talks, Canadian experts say. A convenient lie.  The objective science shows that, instead of heating up, global temperatures have been cooling over the past decade.  Man-made global warming is the most destructive myth of our time — a massive fraud built upon junk science.  This is the real meaning of Climategate, the greatest scandal in modern science. The Wages of Climategate.  Climategate is the worst blow the left has received in quite some time.  The only comparable episode in recent years is Rathergate, involving the bogus documents "proving" George W. Bush's malfeasance regarding his service in the Texas Air National Guard.  Climategate promises to be of even greater consequence. The New Big Lie:  Climategate Emails Are Not Significant.  The criminals at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) in England brazenly defend the indefensible.  It is stunning to watch Michael Mann and Gavin Schmidt, who even look alike, staring directly at the camera and denying the significance of their emails. We Are in Big Trouble.  [Scroll down]  Since the release of the CRU documents that prove the fraud in the science behind man-made global warming, Al Gore has said at least three times (Andrew Bolt of the Herald Sun puts it at four) that the e-mails and information are all ten years old.  This is a lie:  Some of the e-mails are less than two months old.  And dozens upon dozens are less than ten years old.  And everyone — or at least apparently everyone but Al Gore — knows it. Climategate:  Was Russia's warming also man-made?  The Russian business daily Kommersant reports new evidence that Climategate scientists fudged data to exaggerate warming. ClimateGate Just Got Much, Much Bigger.  The long and the short of it is best summarized by the Telegraph's James Dellingpole:  "What the Russians are suggesting here, in other words, is that the entire global temperature record used by the IPCC to inform world government policy is a crock." ... Around the world temperature stations have been widely decommissioned in rural and higher elevations, and we see an over-emphasis on increasingly urbanized (and therefore warmer) stations in the curious selection process as to what temperatures should count, and how much. Climategate goes SERIAL.  Climategate just got much, much bigger.  And all thanks to the Russians who, with perfect timing, dropped this bombshell just as the world's leaders are gathering in Copenhagen to discuss ways of carbon-taxing us all back to the dark ages. ... What the Russians are suggesting here, in other words, is that the entire global temperature record used by the IPCC to inform world government policy is a crock. Climate Change 'Lies' by Britain.  The Met Office's study, which says the first decade of this century has been the warmest on record for 160 years, is being used to trumpet claims that man is causing global warming.  But experts at the Moscow-based Institute of Economic Analysis say the British dossier used statistics from weather stations that fit its theory of global warming, while ignoring those that do not.  They accuse the Met Office's Hadley Centre of relying on just 25 percent of Russia's weather stations and over-estimating warming in the country by more than half a degree Celsius. Who Needs Data?  The scientists at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU), and the people who funded them, did not know how utterly useless CRU was.  All the research done at CRU made no difference whatsoever to the "science" of global warming.  Just ask other scientists and global warming alarmists. Famous weather scientist:  Climategate 'tip of iceberg'.  The Colorado scientist described by the Washington Post as "the World's Most Famous Hurricane Expert" says the "Climategate" e-mails from the United Kingdom that revealed possible data manipulation are evidence of a conspiracy among "warmists," those who believe man's actions are triggering possibly catastrophic climate change. Something's Rotten in Denmark ... and East Anglia, Asheville, and New York City.  Up to half the warming since 1900 is due to land use changes and urbanization, confirmed most recently by Georgia Tech's Brian Stone (2009), Anthony Watts (2009), Roger Pielke Sr., and many others.  The rest of the warming is also man-made — but the men are at the CRU, at NOAA's NCDC, and NASA's GISS, the grant-fed universities and computer labs. A Climatology Conspiracy?  The CRU e-mails have revealed how the normal conventions of the peer review process appear to have been compromised by a team of global warming scientists, with the willing cooperation of the editor of the International Journal of Climatology (IJC), Glenn McGregor.  The team spent nearly a year preparing and publishing a paper that attempted to rebut a previously published paper in IJC by Douglass, Christy, Pearson, and Singer (DCPS).  The DCPS paper, reviewed and accepted in the traditional manner, had shown that the IPCC models that predicted significant "global warming" in fact largely disagreed with the observational data. For AGW religionists, when in doubt, change the facts.  Writing in the Financial Post, Lawrence Solomon reports how a Green Party activist, a fervent believer in global warming, was troubled by the existence of evidence that previous global warming had occurred 1000 years ago during the Middle Ages, a time of human blossoming, increased food supply and better living after the cold, aptly named Dark Ages.  What to do?  Change his high priestly role in the religion of Global Warming?  Nope.  All he had to do was rewrite the facts as they existed in Wikipedia, the online user written encyclopedia. How Wikipedia's green doctor rewrote 5,428 climate articles: Lawrence Solomon:  Wikipedia's climate doctor.  The Climategate Emails describe how a small band of climatologists cooked the books to make the last century seem dangerously warm.  The emails also describe how the band plotted to rewrite history as well as science, particularly by eliminating the Medieval Warm Period, a 400 year period that began around 1000 AD.  The Climategate Emails reveal something else, too:  the enlistment of the most widely read source of information in the world — Wikipedia — in the wholesale rewriting of this history. Wikipedia Meets Its Own Climategate.  Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, had an article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal drawing attention to the rise of "online hostility" and the "degeneration of online civility."  He (and coauthor Andrea Weckerle) suggested ways in which we can "prevent the worst among us from silencing the best among us."  I agree with just about everything that they say.  But there is one problem that Mr. Wales does not go near. Time for a Separation of Science and State.  Even if anthropogenic global warming is proven to be complete bogus, its boosters will continue to hold onto it for dear life as the vast amounts of capital, both political and financial, that they've expended require that they do so. ClimateGate Investigations Galore.  [Scroll down]  Jonathan Leake reported for the Times Online on November 29 that the CRU had destroyed a series of 1980s temperature raw data.  "In a statement on its website, the CRU said:  'We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data,'" reported Leake.  The issue, then, is not whether the data is missing — as both the CRU and Phil Jones have admitted it is — but whether the deletion of this raw data affects the reliability of climate scientists' conclusions about anthropogenic, or human-caused, global warming (AGW). Climategate Whistleblower.  Major clues suggest the leaks were from an insider.  A few emails were sent to a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reporter Paul Hudson on October 12, weeks before full release.  This indicates someone trying to draw attention, but Hudson did nothing.  He knew of the wrath and reach of Michael Mann. Climategate:  The Perils of Global Warming Models.  If a model has not been proven to fully reflect reality, then it has very limited use and should be treated like a horoscope. Anthropogenic Global Warming is a Farce.  Deceitful manipulation of data, concealment or straightforward destruction of inconvenient evidence, vindictive conspiracies to silence critics, are par for the course in all scientific debate.  But in displaying all these characteristics, the CRU e-mails graphically undermine the claim of the Warmers that they command the moral as well as scientific high ground.  It has been a standard ploy of the Warmers to revile the skeptics as whores of the energy industry, swaddled in munificent grants and with large personal stakes in discrediting AGW. Actually, the precise opposite is true. The Global Warming Matrix.  The public posting of e-mails from among the University of Anglia's Climate Research Unit — also known by members of the irrepressible right wing conspiracy contingent as Climategate — bears some amusing yet somewhat disturbing similarities to the popular Sci-Fi movie The Matrix. Michael Mann's very unhappy New Year.  As I said yesterday, one of our jobs this year is to wipe the complacent smiles off the smug faces of the lobbyists, "experts", "scientists", politicians and activists pushing AGW.  This is why I am so glad to report that Michael Mann — creator of the incredible Hockey Stick curve and one of the scientists most heavily implicated in the Climategate scandal — is about to get a very nasty shock. ClimateGate's Next Phase:  False Claims Act Lawsuit.  The United States government has shelled out huge sums of money to universities, think tanks, and businesses to study global warming climate change.  The government is poised to dole out even more money for climate-change "solutions" like the cap-and-trade scheme.  With the revelations about the lengths to which the leading group of global warming doomsayers went to "hide the decline" in temperatures in their seminal studies — studies that themselves spawned an avalanche of government spending — the world is seeing that the entire enterprise may be based on a fraud. The 20 Biggest Stories of 2009.  An absolutely devastating series of emails from scientists at the Hadley Climatic Research Unit was released.  It revealed that behind-the-scenes scientists were admitting that the globe has been cooling over the last decade, manipulating climate data to "hide the decline," conspiring to prevent their data from being made public, and trying to prevent opposing views from being published.  In other words, if the idea of manmade global warming was Bill Clinton, Climategate was Monica Lewinsky's stained blue dress. Revealed:  the racy novel written by the world's most powerful climate scientist.  The chair of the UN's panel on climate change Dr Rajendra Pachauri has taken a break from writing academic papers on global warming to pen a racey romantic novel. ... Although the novel is unlikely to win awards other than the Bad Sex in Fiction prize, it is at least to the lay reader more enjoyable than most of his other books. Global warming science implodes overseas:  American media silent.  The revelations have been nothing short of jaw dropping.  Dozens — yes dozens — of claims made in the IPCC 2007 report on climate change that was supposed to represent the "consensus" of 2500 of the world's climate scientists have been shown to be bogus, or faulty, or not properly vetted, or simply pulled out of thin air.  We know this because newspapers in Great Britain are doing their job... The Hottest Hoax in the World:  It was presented as fact.  The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, led by India's very own RK Pachauri, even announced a consensus on it.  The world was heating up and humans were to blame.  A pack of lies, it turns out. IPCC:  International Pack of Climate Crooks.  Unquestionably the world's final authority on the subject, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's findings and recommendations have formed the bedrock of literally every climate-related initiative worldwide for more than a decade.  Likewise, virtually all such future endeavors — be they Kyoto II, domestic cap-and-tax, or EPA carbon regulation, would inexorably be built upon the credibility of the same U.N. panel's "expert" counsel.  But a glut of ongoing recent discoveries of systemic fraud has rocked that foundation, and the entire man-made global warming house of cards is now teetering on the verge of complete collapse. Disclosing the Real Risks on Climate Change.  Michael Mann's "hockey stick" graph and ClimateGate email scandals have metastasized into a tsunami of revelations that have besmirched the IPCC's credibility and its role as dominant arbiter on matters of energy and climate.  Manipulated and missing temperature data.  Doctored computer models and disaster scenarios.  Alarmist scientists rejecting any studies that dissent from climate catastrophe claims.  Headline-grabbing disaster "studies" about melting glaciers and parched rainforests based on rank speculation or written by World Wildlife Fund activists. Climate emails:  Were they really hacked or just sitting in cyberspace?  Slack security or subversion at the university may have led to 'unintentional sharing', making the police investigation pointless. Climategate Scandal Deals Blow to Global Warming Alarmists.  A series of e-mails between scientists who serve as gatekeepers for the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change leaked from the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit has caused a firestorm of controversy that has yet to die down several months after the news first broke. IPCC's 'Disaster Of Biblical Proportions'.  The original Climate-gate scandal showed that key researchers appeared to hide and distort key data and try to blacklist dissenters.  Now it's clear that many widely touted predictions had scant evidence or were simply made up.  The upshot?  Climate scientists and their political allies are going to have a much harder time winning over the public. Climategate:  the official cover-up continues.  If there's one thing that stinks even more than Climategate, it's the attempts we're seeing everywhere from the IPCC and Penn State University to the BBC to pretend that nothing seriously bad has happened, that "the science" is still "settled", and that it's perfectly OK for the authorities go on throwing loads more of our money at a problem that doesn't exist. Liberals and the Scientific Method:  The entire superstructure of climate alarmism rests on data that are doubtful and possibly fraudulent.  The Science and Public Policy Institute has evaluated surface-temperature records and found, among other things, that 1) instrumental data from the pre-satellite era are virtually useless; 2) fewer than 25 percent of the 6,000 temperature stations that once existed are still operative; 3) comprehensive ocean data have been available only since 2003 and have shown no warming; and 4) higher altitude, higher latitude, and rural stations were the most likely to be lost, leading to a further serious overstatement of warming. Professor Jones also conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now — suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon. Scientist admits there has been no global warming since 1995.  The global warming movement is facing a one-two punch today, as a key figure of the Climategate scandal admitted that there is no evidence the earth has warmed recently and new research suggests existing records aren't sufficient support for global warming claims. Phil Jones Finally Proves Al Gore Right — The Debate Is Over.  Now that Climategate ringleader Phil Jones has admitted that there has been no global warming (man-made or otherwise) since at least 1995, and that the world was warmer in medieval times than now, I only have one question.  Where do the so-called global warming skeptics go to get their reputations back? ClimateGater Jones' Stunning Global Warming Revelations Ignored.  The absolutely stunning global warming revelations this weekend by the man in the middle of the ClimateGate scandal have gone almost completely ignored by America's press.  As NewsBusters reported Saturday, Phil Jones, the head of the British Climatic Research Unit at the heart of ClimateGate, told the BBC: the recent warming trend that began in 1975 is not at all different than two other planetary warming phases since 1850; there has been no statistically significant warming since 1995, and; it is possible the Medieval Warm Period was indeed a global phenomenon thereby making the temperatures seen in the latter part of the 20th century by no means unprecedented. The Science Is Not Settled.  Last Saturday's BBC interview of Phil Jones, the former head of the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) has been portrayed by some as a "retreat"; that, in effect, Jones is backing off his claim that human activities are catastrophically effecting the climate.  That's putting too strong a face on it.  The interview was remarkable, but don't believe for a second that Jones is trading in his alarmist badge for skeptical credentials.  He's simply engaged in damage control, but this interview was still something of an epiphany. The winter of global warming:  The last few months have been cruel and wintry for global-warming true believers.  The long storm began in November, when a leak of e-mails from Britain's University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit revealed that key global-warming scientists tried to stifle dissent, politicize peer-review, which led to revelations that the researchers had dumped much of the raw data used to bolster the alarmist argument. They're finally admitting the science isn't settled.  When was the last time you recall an alarmist such as Phil Jones admitting there was any doubt at all about warming in the last decade and a half?  Haven't we had it drummed into us ceaselessly that the past decade has been the warmest ever recorded?  Prof. Jones's admission to the BBC then is very significant. Inhofe calls for investigation of researcher Michael Mann.  Citing the False Claims Act, which "prohibits certain types of activity generally involving claims for payment of money or receipt of property involving the federal government," [Sen. Jim] Inhofe, who is the ranking member of the Environmental and Public Works Committee, wants [Michael E.] Mann investigated for his use of $500,000 in stimulus funds allotted for climate research.  Inhofe suspects that any government funds Mann may have used in conjunction with the IPCC and the Climatic Research Unit would be a violation of the False Claims Act. Investigate Climate Crimes.  A senator wants an investigation of the false climate testimony before Congress and wants Al Gore to reappear.  The illegalities may involve more than just lying to Congress. ... Inhofe, in releasing a GOP report questioning the science used to support cap-and-trade legislation, hinted that such activities may be part of a vast criminal enterprise designed to bilk governments, taxpayers and investors while enriching those making the false claims. Not Fraud, But 'Noble Cause Corruption'.  Initial reactions are of two views.  Fear-peddling alarmists argue that nothing in the emails changes the science; global warming contrarians scream fraud.  A close reading of the emails shows that these views don't explain anything — they merely restate entrenched views.  The truth of what has occurred is more subtle. Climatology:  A Generalist Study In a Specialized World.  [Scroll down]  Inadequate mainstream coverage of CRU/IPCC scandals is an outrage but equaled by lack of protest from most scientists.  Silence over corruption of the peer review process is disturbing.  Maybe it's blindness induced by funding or politics, but mostly specialization is the cause. A perfect storm is brewing for the IPCC.  While Scotland and North America are still swept by blizzards, in their worst winter for decades, there has been something of a lull in the global warming storm — after three months when the IPCC and Dr Pachauri were themselves battered by almost daily blizzards of new scandals and revelations.  And one reason for this lull is that the real message of all the scandals has been lost. 'Something rotten' at the core of climate science.  The Institute of Physics, which represents 36,000 physicists across Britain and the world, has told a Commons inquiry into Climategate that the controversial emails at the centre of the storm represent "prima facie evidence of determined and co-ordinated refusals to comply with honourable scientific traditions".  In short, the IoP has called into question the integrity of the entire field of climate change. Head of 'Climategate' research unit admits sending 'pretty awful emails' to hide data.  Scientists at the heart of the Climategate row were yesterday [3/1/2010] accused by a leading academic body of undermining science's credibility.  The Institute of Physics said 'worrying implications' had been raised after it was revealed the University of East Anglia had manipulated data on global warming. The Warmers Strike Back.  Sen. James M. Inhofe, R- Okla., is considering asking the Justice Department to investigate whether climate scientists who receive taxpayer-funded grants have falsified data.  He has identified 17 taxpayer-supported scientists who have been major players in the global warming conspiracy. Knowledge, Belief, and Global Warming.  The law of unintended consequences suggests that any cure may be worse than the disease, if both the disease and a cure for it actually exist.  If the disease does not exist, the results are likely to be even worse.
